I'm trying to decide between the two of these monitors.
They both have their pros and cons, but is there a decisive difference between the two that makes one particularly better than the other, in terms of gaming and general performance?

Alternatively, if you think there's a better 1440p, 144+hz Gsync monitor out there that is similar or cheaper in price, you may suggest that (please state why it is better as well!).
Thanks!

Get the PG279Q without a doubt! Beside the Mhz advantage, it's actually an IPS panel, which makes it leaps and bounds better than the PG278Q.
I would not recommend another monitor against the PG279Q in this price range.

The next step up would be the twins: Acer Predator X34 or Asus ROG SWIFT PG348Q and ultrawide is absolutely fantastic. but...

It's not subjective though as far as specs. There is no leaps and bounds in color, contrast and black levels are better but that's completely negated by the ips glow, response time is worse although too small to matter, viewing angle doesn't matter to most situations, anti glare coating is a bit better. It's marginally better in any way and ips glow kills the gaming experience for any darker games. People always want to say how much better color ips is. Well here is a good example of almost identical monitors besides mostly ips vs tn and colors are hardly any different. The numbers actually show tn is better color.

For gaming va is the obvious hands down winner but I don't know of any that are 1440p 144hz gsync. There's the ultrawide z35 but it's got some issues and va just isn't up there yet in capabilities for top end gaming monitors. I'm never going tn or ips again but I don't need 144hz or fast paced stuff.

I heard that in the case of ips monitors, it's kind of a raffle. You might get one with loads of IPS glow and backlight bleeding, you might get one with a little.
Besides that, the PG279Q is better than the PG278Q, correct?

I've heard that the Acer XB270HU is better in some cases. It's virtually the same. I've also heard it tends to be better in the case of glow and bleeding, at least, compared to the PG279Q. Is this true?

And finally, is the 4ms response time that both monitors have good for games?
Thanks

Quality control issue and any monitor is going to have bad ones in the bunch. Typically you don't have much deviance. People confuse backlight bleed and ips glow far too often and they are obviously different if you know what it is. Backlight bleed shouldn't be an issue unless you get a faulty one.

That review mentions the xb as well. If you want to be critical, you should give it a read.

Do you know if which of the two monitors tends to be better in BLB/IPS glow, or is it fairly even? I'm hoping I can get one that I don't need to return.

I did look through it, but I took what it said with a grain of salt as it seems slightly outdated (October of last year). However, if what it says is still accurate, I might go with the Acer panel. Looking at some of the parts about lighting uniformity and similar is kind of making me want to stay away from it.
