I've read quite a few threads on Asus Power Surge issues similar to mine but none of them quite cover my situation.
I recently did some upgrading to my PC which included a new mobo, cpu and ATX case. I'm using the same power supply that I've had a for a few years now and had been working fine with my previous setup. But since upgrading to an ASUS mobo I've been having issues with the Anti Surge protection kicking in and rebooting the PC, but it's only happening when I play specific games. I can sink hours into very demanding games such as GTA V and Batman: Arkham Knight (with which amazingly I've not had any of the reported issues for which I count my blessings) graphics ramped up high and not have any problems. But when I play older less demanding games such as the previous Batman - Arkham Origins, I have the Anti Surge issues. When I ran the benchmark test several times in this game 3 out of 10 times the anti surge kicked in at the exact same point of the test.
Now I have had issues with my PSU having a slight rattle but other than that it has always worked fine. I've read some threads that say the Asus surge protection can be overly sensitive.
Also the new ATX case I have has the PSU mounted at the bottom and I read a thread that states dust build up can cause this in bottom mounted cases. I'm at work at the moment but when I get home I'll give it a clean out and see if that helps.
I'm just confused as to why this wouldn't be a problem when I play more demanding games but happens repeatedly in the less demanding ones?
As I'm at work I can't quite remember the full spec exactly without the info in front of me but what I know off the top of my head is:
Asus Mobo
Intel i7 4*** (can't remember that number exactly)
GTX 970 OC
8GB Ram
Xactu 600w PSU
I'd like to ensure it's not a problem other than a dodgy PSU before I invest in a new one. If this was happening all the time in all games then I'd be confident that the issue was with the PSU but I have my doubts.
Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.
