Hello friends...

I miss the days of a simple BIOS that I could set up in minutes in my sleep! I am building a Windows 11 desktop for my friend. The desktop is working almost the way I want it to. I have two questions about the BIOS:

1) I want this motherboard to scan the USB ports first, then the optical drive, then the hard drive. I can not seem to find out where to set the BIOS to scan the USB ports first. I looked in the simple mode as well as the advanced mode. Can someone direct me to the correct screen I need to do this?

2) I received a notice that the BIOS needed to be updated. I followed the promps and the computer rebooted and everything looked perfect to me - it downloaded the update, and then installed it, then rebooted into Windows. It appeared that I was successful. But then I received a promp saying that I needed to go back into the BIOS to confirm this or maybe set this new BIOS (or words to that effect). I went back into the BIOS and looked around but could not find a way to do this. When I selected "Save and reboot", I see a message saying that I did not do what needed to be done. I am about 99% sure the BIOS update was successful. Any suggestions?

Thanks to all of you who are far, far smarter than I am!

1| Look for Boot Device Priority in BIOS;
USB>Optical Drive>HDD, they need to show up in the BIOS first(after they've been hooked up to the platform) and then you can set the priorities. Out of curiosity, why do you need the BIOS to go through all USB ports?

2| I think what you saw was that the BIOS was reset and asked you if you wanted to load defaults or if you wanted to modify entries within the BIOS settings(X.M.P being one of them or your boot device priority).

For the sake of relevance, please state the BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Thank you for helping me. I like to have a computer scan USB ports because I use a USB drive to install an OS. I will check out your suggestions.

I will boot that PC today and then post the BIOS version. I appreciate you explaining all of this to me. Many thanks.

Hi... Sorry I have taken so long to get back to this build. The BIOS version I have installed is: 1720.

I believe i was in an international ASUS web site when I saw a higher BIOS version for this motherboard. This morning, I noticed that I could go to the USA ASUS web site for my motherboard. It had no BIOS update for me to download.

So do you believe I have the latest BIOS for this motherboard?

Thank you again for your help.

Having the USB in the boot order is a security risk. An infected USB thumb drive could wipe the system. I would not recommend having the USB ports in the boot order. You can ALWAYS manually choose the boot device, or put the USB in the boot order, then remove it. Don't leave it in the boot order.
