Hi guys,

some time ago I bought ASUS Radeon R9 280X. From the very beginning I was receiving some artifacts. Finally I decided to approach the online shop I bought it. Unsuprisingly they tried to put the fault on my PSU and asked for the results of OCCT test on PSU voltage.

The test results were:
+3,3: value 2,03, min. 2,03, max. 2,03
+5: value 3,43, min. 3,39, max. 3,43
-12: value 7,06, min. 7,06, max. 6,96
-5: value 6,0, min. 6,05, max. 6

Being not happy with these results I checked BIOS:
Vcore - 1.092
Dram Volage - 1.512
3.3v - 3,344
5v - 5.1
12v - 12,312

OK, BIOS is not reliable as it shows the results at the particular moment and at idle. So, I tried AIDA64:

3.3v - min.: 3.324, max.: 3,344, average: 3,326
5v - min.: 5,070, max.: 5,100, average: 5,074
12v - min.: 12,168, max.: 12,168, average: 12,168

With these results I was refused to send GPU for further testing. Proposal to check with DMM was also refused for the same reasons as BIOS.

Any suggestions how to deal with the situation? I can try to return my PSU, but I am afraid that I will lose lots of time and some money and will come back to the same situation.

Any software to test GPU?

PSU: Enermax Triathlor FC 650W
MoBo: Gigabyte H87-HD3 ATX Socket 1150

Not close enough to go...

Just now received an answer to my question why OCCT is better than AIDA64:

"OCCT is more reliable for this type of audit simply because it raises the load devices to force the use of the power over real conditions unlike AIDA64 which only occasional readings over time".

Any thoughts if it is true?

There are both similar. But the fact they refused your RMA is a different story. Sounds like they don't want to deal with this problem. It is known that ASUS R9 280X can have problems due to the voltage on the R9 280X ram modules running at 1.6V.
Consider writing on their facebook page to gain attention but keep it polite.

I almost have no doubts that they want to get rid of me. And I even bought additional guarantee package from them for this GPU!

Could you please elaborate more on this 1.6V problem? I am not sure if I understood your point.

The R9 280X is simply the HD 7970 overclocked to thoses speed. However, ASUS have increase the voltage on the memory to 1.6 from 1.5V. The memory is rated for 1.5V. I believe ASUS will simply flash a BIOS which will keep the clock speed but change the voltage back down to 1.5V.
I can't remember the page number but its in there:

Thanks! Interesting point. Updated vBIOS to see if it helps.

Didn't help at all.. same artifacts..
