Hello guys, I run a GL502VM with the 6th gen Intel Processor

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060
SSD: Sandisk SD8SNAT128G1002 128GB
HDD: HGST Travelstar 7K1000 2.5" 1TB
RAM: Micron 8ATF1G64HZ-2G3B1 Samsung M471A1K43BB0-CPB 16GB

I have had massive performance drops as of this morning. My GPU usage would randomly spike up to 95+ Percent, followed by a massive FPS drop to around 20 FPS after around a split second, it would rebound up. I had run into this problem before and figured out that my CPU was being throttled at 99 Degrees. I turned off turbo to solve this problem before, but this time it did not work. I assumed that it was because my CPU was unable to handle the graphics of GTA V without turbo, but I switched back to Forza Horizon 4 (a game I am normally able to play at 60 FPS at Ultra Graphics), I still ran into the same problem. I then went to download the official GPU Driver for my model of the ASUS website (V2221138253) and used DDU to do a clean install. However, the problems still persist and may have increased in severity. I have even lowered the specs to High to see if I could get any improvement but to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated!

CPU and GPU Temps are around 70 to low 80s then gaming, am positive that there is no throttling going on.

I have attached a clip of me "playing" a game with the FPS counter at the top right to show what I am experiencing.

Thanks for the reply, I was getting really stumped

At first, I tried -125 mv and ran a benchmark on GTAV and had more or less the sam results. I then swapped over to -100mv and ran a stress test along with GTAV bench. I'm getting much less of those Lag spikes at -100mv. might have to do some further testing

I'll try and use MSI afterburner to see if I can lower my GPU temp since they share the same cooling vent.

@JordanCarter I am also facing the exact same issue with my GL502VM 7th gen Intel processor. I am really having trouble getting more than 40fps in Forza horizon 4. I would really want you to put up the solution, if you find any!

You both can also try aida64 trial (go to system stability test) to benchmark both gpu and cpu same time, just put x mark to (cpu and gpu:s) and start the test. It will also tell if your temperature throttling at any point.

What is the GPU temperature (not seen in these pictures)?

Pravar: 7th gen cpu:s gets even hotter, verify with aida64 or intel xtu that you actually are thermal throttling before proceeding to tweak.

Also you both could try turning on "performance mode" , just anything which will turn up the fan speed.

I am on best performance preset

it seems that my GPU reached a maximum of 72 Degrees during the stress test. I also noticed that my right fan vent does not seem to be moving air out as fast as my left. I hear the fan spinning, and the vents do not be blocked by anything. AIDA 64 strangely only shows that I have 1 CPU fan

Well then its either dying fan or blocked with dust. You seem to be thermal throttling even on -100mv undervolt.

You might be vrm or vram throttling also, look this video so you can see how many chips the heatsink actually cools, if fan of the fans do not work well you are gonna be stuttering :

This will / might remove warranty to change the thermal paste and if you want to do it, you need isoprophyl alcohol 90% or more pure and good thermal paste like "thermal grizzly kryonaut"
First thing when you disassembly plug off battery connector and dont use ANYTHING metallic in the disassembly or cleaning, credit card or similar will do the job.

I checked the fan, everything is connected, the fan spins, and I also cleaned the vents with compressed air, I can even see through them. It might be that one of the fans is dying. I'll run more tests and see what else happens

Having this same issue in my gl502vmk as of TWO days ago, games will run fine for about 1-2 minutes then massive framerate drop.

Unit is clean. Intel XTU shows power throttling.
