I mostly play Rainbow Six and a few other shooters and I'm looking at getting either the PG278QR or the PG279Q, the only difference is one is a TN and the other is a IPS. I currently have a IPS monitor and love the colors @1440p but it is only 60hz.

Would the 1ms on the TN be noticeably better over the 4ms IPS for shooters?

I would certainly rather have the PG279Q, I actually own it. Just be aware they have terrible backlight bleed issues, kind of luck of the draw if you will get a good one or not. I would steer you towards the Acer Predator XB271HU , it uses the same AU Optronics panel as the PG279Q but does not suffer from mass backlight bleed issues.

i got the pg279q last week. its a stunning screen. monitorwise it's like i've been wearing sunglasses all my life and just now took them off.
I dont get the backlightbleed frenzy at all.
yes on a black screen in a dark room i see it too. but i havent noticed it when using or gaming on my pc.
unless you play in the dark at all times and only dark horrorgames there is no problem that i can see.
if like me you got a small light behind your monitor then blb is not visible.
i almost didnt buy this because of the blb issue popping up on every review and forum.
storm in a glass of water for 95% of users i think.

Well I would say that when most people buy an 800 dollar monitor they expect it to be tested and free of bleed, myself included. I find it to be noticeable whenever the screen goes dark, say in a really dark scene or during a loading screen. And every time I do see it I get dissapointed my 800 dollar monitor has such a flaw. If you don't mind the bleed, great good for you, however I do, and so do the multitudes of people complaining about it. And if the competitor is offering a monitor using the same panel without the mass bleed issues, I am going to recommend it regardless of which I happen to own.

This is one of the downsides of IPS/VA panels. I have a $3,000+ 4K Sony TV which suffers from the same problems. That one I look with real disappointment....
