Question ASUS ROG Strix 4080 stuck at PCIe 3.0 ?

Hi,
I just installed my 4080 and it is stuck at PCIe 3.0
I saw that in GPU-Z

My System:
Asus ROG Strix z590-F Gaming Wifi
Intel i9 11900K
Corsair Dominator Platinum 2x 16GB
Asus ROG Strix RTX 4080
Asus Thor 850-P (will be replaced with Seasonic Vertex)
I got 3 NVME's but none of them is sharing PCIe lanes with my GPU.

BIOS Version 1601
Up to Date GPU drivers. (uninstalled old ones with DDU before installing the new ones)

I had to do a vertical mount, so I used a riser cable. It was advertized as PCIe Gen 4 from Lian Li.
Before I did the vertical mount, I mounted the GPU the normal way and went into BIOS to change the speed from "auto" to "Gen 4".
Afterwards I checked, but it was stuck at Gen 3.0.

Pls, if anyone has any further ideas and/or links which could help I'd appreciate it.

Bulletpoints for what I tried:

  • Normal mount with GEN 4 selected in BIOS
  • Normal mount with auto selected in BIOS
  • Vertical mount with GEN 4 selected in BIOS (riser cable)
  • Vertical mount with auto selected in BIOS (riser cable)
  • BIOS rollback to 1007 and repeat points 1-4
  • BIOS Update to 1601 and repeat ponts 1-4
Is there a special Firmaware/BIOS update for the GPU I missed?

Thanks in advance for helping me.

There's a button in GPU-z to load the GPU and show the actual PCIE speed. If it's still showing 3.0 I'm betting it's the riser cable.

Hi,
thanks for the answer.
I triple checked with other PCIe Gen 4 riser cables I got and it still stays at Gen 3 at max in GPU-Z.
Even with the load Button.

I checked all the cables and they are hard labeled as PCIe 4.0

If you or anyone else has another idea, I'd rly appreciate it.

Thanks

Are you able to check with GPU connected directly to motherboard?
