Purchased parts for a new pc build:

Asus Z270E motherboard
Corsair vengeance lpx DDR4 2400 RAM
Intel I5-7600k processor
(and other parts that i dont think are necessary to list)

After setting everything up, I had the ram in a2 and b2 slots as suggested in manual - powered up. Lights and fans came on - but no post.

Switched from having it on the GPU to integrated graphics - no luck.

Started moving around the RAM sticks and after all combinations - only b1 and b2 work - if i have ram in A1 or A2 slots, no post.

I checked the cpu and socket and no pins looked to be bent.

Is this a BIOS problem? I havent updated it but figured since the board boasts right on the box its for 7th gen processors, it shouldnt be that causing the 2 slots to be DOA should it?

Solution
With his issue, I would just RMA the board. I've seen a couple of other posts recently stating the same issue where two of the four slots are out, but on the same side (A or B). It's been a bent pin or CPU socket problem each time.
One guy managed to use CAT5 cable wires to repin his socket, but I don't suggest that.

Just RMA the board since it's new.

Had this problem. Had a bent pin. Except my b side was out, and A side worked.

RMA the board.

I am not 100%shure but when I overclocked the computer to 114% or (fast) in asus bios I thing the ram got a higher voltage and that sorted out the problems, tested my computer in overclock.com got ufo- nukuelar submarine -and aircraft carrier.
I have checked all the pins with magnefying glass and a strong flash light no bent pins, but the first motherboard I got I rma to seller as he said it was probably broken, but hade the same problem with the new one and I sorted it out my self with trial and errors, the vendor called me later to ask how i did it,even gave me win 10 home for free.

His slots aren't working. He can't do what you're asking him to do. I know what he's talking about. The board doesn't function with the ram in two of the slots.

With the way it works, if RMA'ing the board doesn't fix it, he needs to RMA the CPU as something might be wrong with that. That's a slim to none, but it's a possibility.

Yeah, i have a replacement board coming on monday. When i get home today im going to update the BIOS off of a flash drive and if that doesnt do it, then ill call it good and know its the ram slots (or i guess it could be CPU but will find out for sure with board 2)

I understand,it might be the same problemes I had,,if you cant run with 2sticks of ram ,try to run with one stick and get post,I did but that was after I got a new MB ,I tought the chanses of getting 2 faulty MB would be slim and tried every thing inside and outside the box to get it running,I have the monitor hooked up to the GPU,good luck with the new MB.

Updated the BIOS and still no post with ram in either of the A slots. New mobo will be in today - hopefully this one will work!

That's great, hopefully your new board works!

If there's any issues afterwards, please absolutely feel free to come back. We can continue to troubleshoot from there, as it could be very unlikely but another bad board, or possibly a bad CPU.

I have exactly the same problem, it drives me crazy, only B banks on the ASus z270f work, no combination on A DIMM work at all. Installing the bequiet CPU cooler was a pain and I would hate to desemble everything again, but it seems like I have to...

I had the exact same problem with the z270f. I didn't think to check the other ram banks(I'm new at building from scratch. I have only upgraded ram and cpu and gpu. Never dealt with replacing MoBo's before) I was wondering why the "Ram LED" stayed lit after turning it on. AFTER requesting a shipping label for return and refund did I glance at a section in the manual saying if it stays lit theres a problem with that portion of the board. Then I found this article.

So in advanced, thanks. I've just ordered a new one and hopefully when it gets here it won't be another defect. everything still set up for the most part so all i'll have to do is throw the cpu, ram, and hookup the psu and check it out. Thanks again. love this site!
