Was wondering if the fan headers on my motherboard could run and control 3 pin corsair air flow high airflow quiet edition

Yes, all your motherboard's fan headers are 4-pin headers that can support 4-pin or 3-pin fans with BIOS options (may be automatically detected) for PWM-mode (in the case of 4-pin fans) or DC-mode (in the case of 3-pin fans) to control the fan's speed, the former (PWM) using constant +12V at Pin #2 but variable current at Pin #4; the latter (DC) using variable voltage at Pin #2 and no electrical connection at Pin #4.

Just plug the 3-pin fans in the available 4-pin fan headers of your motherboard like this:

so if i understand correctly they are both controlled and dont run at full speed all the time, just the method of control differs correct?

That's correct. It is a feature of your motherboard that allows for such control functions (PWM or DC modes).

Only instance that your fan might run in full speed is if you plug a 3-pin fan (DC fan) on a 4-pin header which is set at PWM mode (not DC mode). In this case, only 3 pins of the headers are electrically connected to the fans, and since PWM mode provides constant +12V at Pin #2, it will run the DC fan at full speed (+12V) when in such PWM mode.

Note that there is a possibility that your fan's LEDs *might* dim when using DC mode, due to the decrease in voltage supplied in Pin #2 when slowing down the fan speed (will also dim the LED).

alright thanks alot will keep that in mind, another related question can the NZXT kraken x42 aio control 3 pin fans the same way as the motherboard or should i just stick with the mobo fan headers?

For 3-pin fans, I suggest you stick with the mobo fan headers (allows DC mode control). The Kraken X42 might not allow control of 3-pin fans in the NZXT CAM software (only 4-pin PWM fans, AFAIK).
