Asus Rog Swift but no 144hz on desktop?

I just build my first pc including an Asus Rog Swift gaming monitor, but I can't seem to get above 60Hz on the desktop? I connected the monitor to the my GTX 980 TI with the included Display port cable and of course plugged in the power for the monitor. So did I do something wrong, need to install some drivers? or is only enabled in games and such?

So I just had a similar issue. You can either use a custom resolution or on the PC resolutions page scrolls down to PC underneath the typical resolutions (UHD,HD,SD) and see if the refresh rate you want is under one of those resolutions.

Nevermind figured it out, reboot did the job.. Should probably have tried that before asking the question, lol
