So, imagine me in the market for a new G-Sync monitor when I see this announced. The ROG Swift PG278Q. 27",1440p, G-Sync, and minimal input lag. So then I looked at the price. $799.

So my question is, is it worth the money? You could buy a GTX 780 Ti with that amount of cash.
Thanks I just want to see others thoughts on the price.

(For any of you wondering my current card is a EVGA GTX 780 Classified)

Given the fact that they went through MANY suppliers and couldn't find a manufacturer who could meet their specs and they ended up making their own panel.. the G-Sync capability.. really isn't a bad price IMHO.

I think my current monitor is getting ready to take a dirt nap, so I've been looking into new monitors. I have a friend who has a BenQ 27" 120Hz gaming monitor (BenQ XL2720T) and after spend about an hour gaming in BF4 I did now want to go home to my 60Hz monitor, and night and day difference in smoothness with the higher refresh rate.
New 4Q monitors are coming out, and you can get some nice monitor's for around $650, but 4Q monitors are limited to 60Hz and technology won't let them make a jump to 120Hz for quite awhile.
During my hunt for a 27" gaming monitor I've come across about 3 choices. I'm somewhat shying away with Asus as I see a lot of customer's have not been happy with Asus when comes to color, no matter how the monitor is adjusted, most games looked washed out.

Anyways Asus can't seem to get the ROG to market, which makes me wonder if they are having issues with it. Latest rumor is a June release, we have E3 coming up, maybe get some kind of official update then.

So far I've narrow my choice to these...

Lot new 4Q monitors are showing up and the price has come down a lot, the only issue is yes they look great, but are only offer 60Hz, and tech sites say it’s going to be a long time before 4Q monitors will have 120Hz refresh rate.

$800 is about $300 more than I'm willing to pay for any monitor. My current 2560x1440 Asus monitor at 60Hz will have to do; I'd rather put the money towards GPUs. Frankly 2560x1440 isn't much of a step up image-wise, just seems to scale to a bigger screen. If I had to go back to 1080p the only thing that would bother me is losing 3 inches of real estate. I don't have any game that is having problems where it would need Gsync other than modded skyrim, but I suspect that has more to do with the engine than frame sync.

I've just seen this monitor advertised in the UK for £710...how in the blue hell does $800 (USD) equal £710 GBP?! That's £245 / $420 premium for UK buyers, the effective price in UK is circa $1,220 USD!!!

I hate UK taxes but that's only 10%-20% of the of the problem, the other 80% is companies cashing in on the UK public via increased profit margins when compared to other territories - happens all the time.

/ rant.

I'm not a gamer, I'm a web developer/graphics guy, I just want a hi-res monitor with a thin bezel. I don't care about ultra high refresh rates. Do I really need a 780Ti card? Would a 760 card w/ 2GB do alright? $$ isn't a primary concern.

This monitor is designed for gaming. It's main feature is G-sync, which is a gaming only feature. If you do not plan to game, there are better options for you.

Sure, there are other options, but I haven't found a monitor with this resolution AND the really nice, thin bezel that this has. Again, money is not the deciding factor, resolution, VESA mounting, and aesthetics (thin bezel) are. So the question still stands, will this monitor work with a 760 video card?

if your a web developer then think about the lq 34m95 ultra wide , its 3440/1440 and is a awesome pic , its so good that i recently bought 3 asus vg248qe monitors for gaming and i sent them back because even as good as they were it was like steping back to the past with the color , im waiting for the swift for gaming hoping it has better color im still getting it ..but that lg is amazing

Take a look at this review. I found it very informative.

Seems like you need to play your games on windowed mode to get 144 Hz. Otherwise you need top-end PC to handle 2560 x 1440. Also this monitor have only Display port. Which is mean only via DP you can connect to this monitor.

That isn't true. You either misunderstood what was said, or the reviewer had a bug. Other reviews say no such thing.

Would be nice if you share review where the refresh rate been tested at each resulution.

This is probably the best one you can find: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_rog_swift_pg278q.htm

The reason the reviewer had to switch to full screen mode for 144hz, was that he must have had ULMB enabled. ULMB only works at 85hz, 100hz and 120hz, and only works in fullscreen. So if he had it enabled, to get 144hz, he had to go to windowed mode to automatically disable ULMB and allow 144hz. He could have also simply disabled ULMB mode.

EDIT: I see you had the same link, but just misunderstood what was said. He clearly said it operates at 144hz normally. It also clearly states that ULMB only works at 85/100/120hz.
