So, imagine me in the market for a new G-Sync monitor when I see this announced. The ROG Swift PG278Q. 27",1440p, G-Sync, and minimal input lag. So then I looked at the price. $799.

So my question is, is it worth the money? You could buy a GTX 780 Ti with that amount of cash.
Thanks I just want to see others thoughts on the price.

(For any of you wondering my current card is a EVGA GTX 780 Classified)

Solution
Given the fact that they went through MANY suppliers and couldn't find a manufacturer who could meet their specs and they ended up making their own panel.. the G-Sync capability.. really isn't a bad price IMHO.

What are you using now? It'll be an upgrade from something for sure. I'm still using a monitor from 5+ years ago and it's been keeping me happy, but after seeing high frame rate, this would definitely be worth it for me.

Even though the cost is through the roof, it seems like the only monitor worth spending money on. It's 1440P, which is plenty for the next several years (I won't have the hardware for 4k anytime soon, so this is plenty); it's plenty big enough at 27 inches; it's got a 1ms response time, which is awesome; it has G-sync, which I couldn't imagine spending even $5 for a monitor that doesn't have that now; and it has refresh rates all the way up to 144hz. I absolutely hate the price, but I just can't see myself getting anything else.

Personally speaking, I was dead set on ordering the Swift ASAP, but Ive changed my mind. I already have a 144Hz/1ms monitor (BenQXL2420Z), so the jump to a Swift wont be as impressive to me, as to someone coming from 60Hz. I can go without G-Sync for a while anyway, my 780Ti keeps the frames pumping high enough so I rarely see screen tearing.

If you have the cash to spend then its worth it, (because its the best gaming monitor), but as someone else said it comes down to your own personal disposable income.

Your going to need at least 2 well overclocked 780TI's to push that beast.

they will be shipped on Aug. 26th.

they will be shipped on Aug. 26th.

It says on PCPER that they will be available on the 26th of this month. Not sure what vendors will carry it and if anyone within the next 2 weeks will offer pre-orders or just put them up on their website on the 26th ready for grabs.

For god sake no you dont...do people even do their research before coming up with such outlandish statements. It has been stated many times that the requirement for G-sync is simply a 650 ti. Now for high end gaming many popular reviewers such as Linus have recommended atleast a GTX 770 4g. Not that hard to look up info before making it up... http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/system-requirements

The outlandish requirements comes from the crowd that feels a game that is not playable if you cannot play at maxed out settings.

Damn I was considering a 1440p 144Hz monitor over my newly set up triple 24" 1080p 144Hz config, but the single monitor still costs more than the 3 I bought! ($750) and I have AMD cards so I can't use g-sync anyway.

its out for preordering !!!

I bought the asus 24" with 144hz refresh rate when it came out then upgraded the monitor with the gsync package when it became available. It's very nice! Like a crt when I'm gaming. I purchased the rog swift which should be coming in today not that ill notice a difference but the 27" view will be nice along with the 1440p which is what sold me. The gsync does work and ulmb I've tried a little but the screen was to dark for my taste. To me it's worth every dime, I'll let you know later today what I think about it.

When I first saw these, I was very interested. Enough to the point where I built a ToL rig solely based on running these in 3 screen. I bought 3 780ti's, i7-4930k, and water blocked the whole setup. At the price they had last year at 700 a pop, that was exactly the price I would have payed for them.

Right now I'm running the 24" Asus 144hz that run ~$230, and I'll be honest with y'all...I have no reason to even bother with these now. The price is pushing $900 each, they NEVER answered the SLI/surround + gsync capability, and about the only thing better than my 24's is is the bezel...which I don't even notice!

No doubt they are eye candy, but come come on Asus...your starting to treat computer consumers like we don't know that a better model will be out in 3 months at half the price further devaluing 900 bucks (or 2700 for the severe enthusiasts) of gaming monitors.

-Disappointed Enthusiast.

Exactly I was thinking the same thing, it was a rediculous statement. I'm running a U3011 @ 2560 x 1600 and I can run immensly well without 2 over clocked 780's... (Not gonna tell you what i AM running. But I am running just fine)...

(I also have a few other 30 Inch at 2560 x 1600 and also a 28 Inch at 2560 x 1440. (7 gaming rigs here) I'll never go back to 1080)...

Oh and no one else has mentioned this yet. It's a TN panel not an IPS panel. VERY expensive for a TN panel...

Yes but the jump to g-sync will be as impressive as the jump from 60hz to 144hz from what I'm hearing. Another analogy I've heard is like the jump from a spin drive to SSD. Strange analogy, but they refer to the wow factor of G-sync.

Asus is price gouging at the moment because they can. Once the market gets flooded with G-sync monitors it will come down to a reasonable price ($650 sounds about fair).
Its listed on new egg as "World's first and only WQHD G-sync monitor" at $799. Hopefully we'll see a plethora of monitors running g-sync within the next 90 days and everyone will start to check each other with competitive prices.
