[SOLVED] Asus Router DSL Link blinking

The reason I am here is that after 3 years of solid service, my ASUS DSL AC68U router will not establish a DSL link.

It was always powered through a UPS, and one night after a thunderstorm the DSL light just kept blinking.
The UPS did not spike or even detect any surge.

The phone line was fine, but after then, I had use the ISP's router for the internet.

I have even tried plugging in to my friends socket (at another house) for the internet, and again the same
thing, the DSL light just keeps blinking. Notably the AC68 stil has all it functionality when it comes to its other features.

The firmware is up to date, and I have reset it (as suggested by ASUS) by holding down the WPS,
but by also the small reset button in on the back.

Any ideas would be appreciated as I really want to hang on to it, and if I could to do something then please
let me know. Otherwise it means buying another router, as I am not keen proponent on using the ISP's router.

All help is appreciated in advance, best wishes - Steve

It sounds like the DSL modem got damaged. Most telephone lines have grounds as they enter the house to prevent damage from lightning. A UPS only protect the power the telephone wires are a different path. It is fairly uncommon but if lightning were to actually hit a telephone pole where your wire run it could damage equipment fairly far away.

If you had not tested it at someone elses house I would say the wires themselves were damaged but because it also does not work and the ISP modem does it indicates the modem part failed.

Did you try resetting it?

Sry, had to.
Sounds like it's busted if you took it to another location and still have the malfunction.
Can you get into the interface thru the internet browser? Like, to change your wifi password. I forget the link you have to use, its usually 100.100.002 or something like that.
