My two year old S400CA has crashed three times, the most recent sends me to the aptio setup utility and nowhere else, trying f9, f3,f2.

My sense is that my hard drive is corrupted in some way and that a reset to the original state, done once already, will eventually lead to the same problem. Other thoughts??

My idea is to buy a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD, which I can get for about $100 rather than buy a new computer. Installation looks hard, but doable. I'm 77 but not, too, shaky.

Is there a better alternative? Can I transfer data from the HDD - even if possibly corrupted? Warnings?

Thanks for any help.

Solution
It is unlikely you'll be able to transfer anything but you can try after your new SSD is set up with something like this http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00HJZJI84/

I take it no prob on the HDD SDD switch and that HDD may be corrupted since aptio setup utility can't find anything to setup.

The link to Amazon and transfer cable calls for USB 3, is there a port for this 3.0 on the Asus s400 ca?

Mattios, thanks for the help.

Before you proceed any further you might want to take a look at this...

("how to solve the problem of aptio setup utility")

Don't know if there's anything in those posts that bear directly on your problem but at least peruse them.

Have you tried running some HDD diagnostic program to determine if you are actually dealing with a defective HDD? Probably a good idea, no?
Is there any ASUS diagnostic tool that's available?
If not, try HD Tune at...http://www.hdtune.com/

The point here is that you should at the least try to determine that your problem is with the HDD and is not being caused by something else.
