Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 with AMD FX-9590

This is an out of curiosity question.

I own a computer with the FX 9590 CPU, which takes 220W. It's installed on the Sabertooth 990FX R2.0, which according to the product page, supports CPU up to 140W.

So I have this build since 2 years now. It's working fine, but sometimes I have random freezes. 95% of the time, it is when I shut down/restart my computer. So my question is .... Is it because of the motherboard?

I think you have the specs incorrect:

It has a little badge on there that lists 9000 series CPU support and if you look at the compatibility list it supports it as well. The board is a 220 w board if thats the case.

As for your freezes that could be any number of things, the 9590 is not known to be the most rock solid stable CPU out there.

Yeah but the compatibility charts and the label on the overview both say 9000 series support, so somehow its able to draw the 220 watts needed for those CPU's.

your motherboard is fine i run an overclocked 9590 on a rev 1 Sabertooth and the rev 2 has improved power delivery and a few other improvements.

im willing to bet that you have to go into your BIOS and manually set your ram timings.

From what I remember the ram timings are fine. I'll check it out just to be sure.

I really hope it's a W8.1 issue then, and when I'll install W10 the problem will go away. Thanks!

What PSU, GPU and DRAM model #s?

Well, since I installed Windows 10, I haven't had any freezes YET.

PSU : CX750M
GPU : XFX R9 280X
DRAM : 2 X Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMMs (HX318C10FBK2/16)
2 X Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB Desktop Memory Module - DDR3, 1600MHz, PC3-12800, CL 11, 1.5V - PX38G1600C11

The CX isn't a good line of PSUs, they have weak caps. Also you are mixing DRAM that can cause problems. AMD suggest at least a 1,000 watt PSU with rigs running the 9590, (I'd want at least a good 850). In short there are a few things that jump out that could cause problems. Hope things continue to go well
