Asus Sabertooth X58 No Video on Wake Solution

Problem:
After entering sleep mode in Windows 7, no video on wake. Hard drives, fans, powered up but no video.

Solution:
Motherboard came with BIOS v.0505. Flashed BIOS to v.0402 using Asus Update Utility (for Windows) found on Motherboard utilities CD. Machine now enters sleep mode anywhere from 5 min to hours and monitor wakes every time.

I read all sorts of recommendations from power settings in Windows to removing CMOS battery and resetting BIOS, etc... Had tried them all but flashing the BIOS to v.0402 worked. Found plenty of info pertaining to this problem on other Asus boards but not much on the Sabertooth. Others had success flashing BIOS to a different version...

The no video on wake issue was resolved, however I began to experience problems with no video on POST. Upon POST, the red VGA light would hang on the motherboard and the fan on the video card would run excessively fast (you could hear it). I would have to power the PC on, turn it off, then power on again for the video to work. I got online with Asus live support chat and the technician suggested it was a problem with a capacitor in either the video card or the power supply. The reason the video did not come on upon power up was because a bad capacitor was not holding the required amount of amps to power up the video card which is why a second power up cycle was required to get that capacitor the amperage it needed to power up. Makes sense. I popped in a new video card, and everything is working fine now. Upgraded to the VisionTek Radeon HD 5770. The 5770 card also requires a PCIe power cable where as the XFX Radeon HD 5670 did not which made me a little skeptical. Upgraded BIOS back to v0505 and sleep/POST video working perfect. Currently using the OCZ Mod X Stream Pro 600W PSU.

Glad you were able to in the end work things out. At times it is just as good to just put it down on "paper" and get the thought process going. By doing so, you were able to research and seek out your own answer...
