I'm assuming you're referring to the Mark 2 version. My reasoning is that, if you had a bigger budget, you'd be comparing the Sabertooth with the Hero rather than the Z97A. IMO, there's a big enough gain in quality and features to make the jump from the Z97A to the Hero if your budget can support it. The jump from the Z97A to the Sabertooth doesn't look like as good a value. Again, just my personal opinion.

Having said that, all three are very good boards and the decision really rests on which feature-set best fits your needs.

Actually, I'm not really sure why you're looking at the Z97 boards anyway since that's not an unlocked chip. You're going to be paying a pretty hefty premium for a feature you can't use anyway. Maybe you're just setting up for a Broadwell K-chip down the road?
