Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Asus Strix GTX 1070 OC

i bought asus strix 1070 the regular edition......i didn't know there was OC version for this GPU so my question is......is there any difference inside the 2 versions of this gpu except the BIOS......i mean if the OC version have better cooling or better quality parts? sorry if my question is silly i just want to know!

The OC version is just factory OCed. You can probably get the same OC on your card at the moment.

Ditto, factory OCs also aren't as impactful as they used to be with Maxwell, GPU Boost 3.0 will likely boost your card to the same speed as the OC'd strix version anyway, nothing to worry about, with the Strix cards the extra cost isn't justified imo.

I heard the 1070 nonoc's powerlimit is capped and you cannot reach 120%. Can anyone confirm? If that's the case, the 1070 OC version can get 120% and will have better OC potential.

Incorrect, they use almost identical BIOSes, only difference is the clock speed.

Interesting. The person I was helping a couple months ago, said he was stuck at 112% and couldn't go any higher.

Probably the software he's using, some allow for a max of 112, some allow for 120% like MSI afterburner.

my power limit MAX is 112% nothing more in both msi afterburner and asus's gpu tweak ii......i think the only difference is the power limit of the card and if you all say that the 2 versions is same in hardware components then it's only the BIOS

another question can i install the OC version BIOS on my card or it's dangerous? and if it's not.......installing the other bios is easy on nvidia GPUs like AMD GPUs or not? thanks

Yeah non OC limit is 112 and OC is 120. Other than the slightly higher clocks, it is identical hardware.

Generally not dangerous, no.
I don't know if its just me, but I tested a strix at stock clocks and was able to hit 120% power limit in afterburner....
Perhaps it was the midrange, idk.

Honestly there is no real reason to do so. I have flashed the non-OC BIOS to my card and back again (don't ask long stupid story) and both worked fine. You can try it if you wish. NVFlash will say something like there is an ID mismatch or something along those lines if you flash the OC BIOS to it but you can force it.

I've never ran into an issue where the power limit needed to be higher than 110%. Are you running into a power limit wall while overclocking it? If not, I would just leave it alone.
