ASUS Strix GTX 970 Max Operating Temperature

Why my new ASUS Strix GTX 970 is ramping up to the temperature up to 70 deg with in a minute and after that slow rise from 70 to 75 deg and stables in between 75-80 deg there after upon running on graphics intensive task? Is this usual or unusual?

Also one more question ...

Can I put my cabinet in vertical position after installing ASUS GTX 970? why I doubt because, this card is heavy and only screw at one end and PCIx has to bear the complete weight of the card, as screw is located completely aside, whole card weight falls on teeth of this card fixed at PCIx and that teethed circuit looking thin, feeling that it may break? can you suggest any solution

970s max temp is 98degrees. You're safe at 80. I wouldn't want to run it any hotter than 80 though

That's an absolutely ridiculous post. 80 is too hot, 98 is laughable.

80 is safe, you're just worrying. 78 is considered the "sweet spot" but ideally we could get your temps to low 70's. Benchmarks tend to stress the GPU more than gaming will, so I wouldn't worry too much. If you're that concerned you can RMA the card, but in my experience I believe it's your very poor case cooling.

My Mobo (MSI Z97 PC Mate) has two PCIx slots, I moved ASUS card from bottom slot to top slot, now the max temperature is 75-76 deg, I ran furmark stress test also, max temperature is 75 to 76 (not 78 like earlier)

(This PC is not complete, other components on the way, I will be updating with sandisk SSD, 16GB 1866RAM (currently using 1333 RAM), soundblaster z)

It runs colder because it has been moved closer to the fans if I had to guess. Chuck a few more fans in and you should be good.
