ASUS Strix R9 380 4GB - Black screen after boot/bios screen after updating drivers anything past 18.6.1

So what happens is whenever I try updating my display drivers past 18.6.1 (so far I've tried 18.7.1, 18.8.1, 18.8.2, 18.9.2, and 18.9.3), it will load past the boot screen no problem, but black screen at the login screen (without mouse cursor). After clean installing the above drivers, I can continue using the computer no worries, its only when I restart it later that the black screen will occur. If I don't restart the computer after the install, it works fine (i.e, if I hibernate or sleep it wakes up fine, only if I restart). 18.6.1 works fine. I've tried DDU and the AMD default clean installer/uninstaller, with no success. I haven't added any new hardware prior to the problem starting, but I've tried removing unnecessary hardware prior to each clean driver install, as well as removing one of the monitors. What's weird (or maybe not, not sure how drivers work) is that even though it black screens, I can still go onto team viewer and use the computer no worries, so it's definitely a display driver problem I think. Any ideas to fix this? I'd really like to upgrade to newer drivers for that slightly better performance for certain newer games.

My specs:

CPU: AMD A-10 7870K APU, overclocked to 4.5GHz

Cooler: No idea - looks like a AMD stock cooler

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-HD3

RAM: 2 x G.Skill 8GB DDR3 - 2133 MHz

PSU: Coolermaster 550W

GPU: ASUS Strix R9 380 4GB

Monitors: ASUS VG248QE gaming monitor via dual link DVI, and a LG 24MP48HQ-P via HDMI

Drives: 1 x Western Digital 1TB 7200 RPM HDD, 1 x Samsung 850 EVO 250GB mSATA SSD

OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 64 Bit (Version 1803)

Also, Windows 10 periodically updates device drivers. A sure indication on my system is that the secondary monitor will go black. Then I have to update the Nvidia graphics driver again to fix it.

So consult the update logs to see if you had an update in that time period. It might be the culprit.

Great suggestions! thanks bud, I'll try those soon

Update BIOS, sometimes the GPU needs it, my MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H rev 1.0 "asks" for that when trying to install a GTX1050 GPU). Well, what happened is that the computer boots and when it tried to show the W7 logo, it freezes with a black screen. Updated BIOS and went fine until today. 😀

Probably your BIOS cannot keep settings. Put a new CR2032 battery, probably it'll be what fixes your problem... Also try to move the cable to see if it is loose, or the very cable plug is loose too.
Also, keep in mind that you are dealing with an AMD card, known to cause tons of troubles. Also, those cards tend to overheat (remember Athlon processors?, I have had one of those still on direct path to china after playing Quake3), maybe you should change the thermal paste, because sensors sometimes report wrong "healthy" temps.
