Thinking of getting this board for my next build, it has 2 m.2 slots.. could I get 2 of the same 1TB drives like the Crucial MX500, and set them up in a raid so the system treats them as one big 2TB drive? I think I remember reading on an earlier board that had 2 slots, you could have one PCI and 1 SATA, but not 2 of the same kind.. is that still true?

Seems cheaper to go with 2 1TB drives than it is to go with a single 2 TB. I don't like having a separate boot drive and storage drive, I prefer to have a single C drive that's big enough to hold everything all in 1 place.

read the spec and manaul? https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z390-I-GAMING/

"Dual PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slots provide NVMe SSD RAID support for an incredible performance boost. Create a RAID configuration with up to two PCIe 3.0 storage devices via the dual M.2 slots to enjoy the fastest data-transfer speeds on the 8th Generation Intel Core platform."

Sorry, i missed that in the specs. I backup to an external hard drive fairly often (usually once a week). I've never done a raid before, is it prone to failure often? Would I be better off just spending the extra cash for one 2TB drive?

Hmm, yeah I guess the piece of mind is worth $20 :) Another question.. 1 M.2 port is on the back of the board and the other is on the front.. is either slot better? The top one has a heat sink built in, would the bottom one be prone to overheat? I'm probably not going to be doing much overclocking. I was thinking with 1 drive in the back, I would have the extra one on top that would be easier to access if I ever wanted to add a 2nd one some time later. But I'd rather just use the top slot with the heat sink if it will be safer or more reliable.
