my biggest bother is the move to ditch the SSD from the netbooks.
have the 701 (8Gb) and it's all the space that i need. it's a secondary computer not for primary use. i'm a nomadic tech and the 701 is great; light, small, and i don't have to worry about messing up a HD when i toss it into my pack.

personally i'm waiting on the 9'' tablet. i just don't like the thought of paying for a win licence that i will promptly delete and having to go out and spend an extra $100 for a SSD.

i think the whole idea is so your average fat dumb wal-mart shopper sees a bigger number next to storage capacity. that and the amount of tweaking involved to get acceptable performance out of the cheaper mlc drives. the 4gb ssd that came with my 900a was bottom of the barrel.

My biggest problem with the Eee is the majority of them sold at places like Best Buy have the Celeron CPU. I am never going to buy another Celeron ever again. (Went that route before, unfortunately) Intel has some pretty good CPU's right now, Celeron isn't one. And this is coming from an Intel "fanboy"

I don't have a problem with a 12" netbook, and in fact I think it is a good size for a lot of people. My wife wanted a small and light computer, I didn't think 10" was quite big enough for her, so I bought her a 12" with a dual core processor. It cost almost 3 times as much as a netbook. Maybe it helps her to have more power than a netbook, maybe not. My old Dell laptop probably has similar CPU power to a current netbook and with WinXP it is fine.

The article didn't say what OS the EEE would come with, but it needs XP to work well with the Atom. Dell hindered their min-12 by putting Vista on it, from the standpoint of cost, memory use, and cpu power.

IMO, I'll draw the line at 12" for a netbook, and WinXP or maybe W7 for it. No Vista and nothing bigger than 12".

Personally I think I would be happy with a 10" netbook and XP.

Can we please drop the name "netbook" now? An 11.6" laptop is not a netbook. It is just a tad smaller than a 12" laptop but really crappily made, underpowered, and cheap. Let's just call netbooks what they really are. Really crappy notebooks that are sometimes on the small side.

Yes because all Walmart shoppers are fat and dumb. Walmart has far and away the best prices on just about anything you could want to buy plus they have an excellent return policy. Anything I can't find cheaper at Walmart I get online but you can't buy groceries online. You can spend more money if you like, but who is really the dumb one then?

I have MSI Wind with 10 inch screen, WinXP, Atom, normal 120GB HDD and 1GB of RAM. Use it for travel (lots of pictures, thus normal and big HDD helps) and connecting to main work PC using win terminal and external monitor/keyboard/mouse. Sure, no gaming.
I do not use my 14 inch Dell with uber CPU anymore as there is no more need for it, a little Wind holds charge longer and weights much less

IMHO, anything bigger than 10 inch screen is a desktop replacement. If I want to do video process/game/other heavy stuff, I turn on my main desktop at home.

i didn't say all, i said average. seriously, a trip to my wal-mart makes me question our ability to survive as a species. i apologize if you take jokes about wal-mart this seriously and were offended but it was just a joke. lets all go back to complaining about computers now.
