Question Asus TUF Gaming x870-PLUS WIFI lights up but will not power on

Hi all, links to the mobo and CPU I bought are below. I'm a fairly experienced PC builder, and I've done all the troubleshooting I know (unplugged all peripherals, graphics card, etc.), QLED for diag seems to work, when power goes to mobo RGB lighting turns on and actively undulates. QLED diag is functional, tested by removing RAM from DIMM. I made sure the power switch was wired to the header correctly, and despite power getting to the mobo it just won't power on.

I have a 3090 GPU, Ryzen 7-9000 CPU, and an 850w PSU. I ordered a new 1000w PSU in case this was the issue. I know the case/pwr buttons work as I'm simply replacing the mobo/CPU in previous ATX case.

I just got the mobo from Newegg today, but I hate to return it if I don't have to. Is there anything else I can to to troubleshoot? Thanks!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

and an 850w PSU
850W is the advertised wattage of the unit. What is the make and model of the unit?
I know the case/pwr buttons work as I'm simply replacing the mobo/CPU in previous ATX case.
Assuming the PSU is also being recycled, how old is the unit?

I ordered a new 1000w PSU in case this was the issue.
Make and model of said unit would help us two fold.

Have you tried building your innards breadboarded? Rams on slots A2 and B2? How are you cooling the processor? Did you inspect the CPU's socket for any bent or broken pins? Try and relieve some pressure from the CPU's socket off of the cooler.

I have a 3090 GPU
Your processor has an iGPU, try working without the discrete GPU.

Check All power connections re- connect cables, reseat components try the onboard graphics check power switch connectors PSU connections and power cord etc. Breadboard method is best to see if the motherboard will POST. and boot. Please post your results. There are people here who will help you get your computer running. Cheers.

Hi all, apologies for the late reply. It has been a few years since I built a PC for myself, so I assumed my old PSU would be compatible/powerful enough. It wasn't. Got the 1000w ATX3.0 PSU installed and it fired right up!

Lesson learned: even if your PC was nearly top-of-the-line 6-7 years ago and you want to recycle parts, do a bit more research into what you're buying and make sure the parts you're reusing are compatible with the new parts you're adding.

Also, I appreciate your feedback and help with troubleshooting. Definitely check all connections too after assembly to ensure nothing is disconnected or installed incorrectly.

Hi my old system from 2013 is running fine today. I had to check all connections etc when it would not boot. I am glad you found your solution. Cheers and enjoy your new computer. My old build is a 2013 Gigabyte 990 FXA UD5 Version 3 board with 32 GB of 1600 MHz RAM GSkill, GTX 1050 TI 4GB Graphic card WD Blue 1 TB SSD and Hybrid 2 TB Seagate HDD. 9370 AMD FX CPU 8 core with original Liquid Cooler. PSU is a Seasonic 1050 Watt. It performs well, not bad for a $200.00 local sale when I bought it in the beginning of this year not running. Now it runs with no issues Windows 11 23H2 Gaming and Office Programs.
