Hi there,

I'm in the process of purchasing a TUF X570 gaming motherboard for my Ryzen 3700x . The only version of the motherboard that's available to me at the moment is the non-wifi version unfortunately so I will have to use a WIFI card in one of the PCI slots.

I'm just wondering as the board only supports up to Wifi 5, is it possible for me to get a Wifi card that will allow me to utilize WIFI 6 in the future?

Thanks

Solution
Oh right.... So all of the slots(both long and short) on the TUF X570 are PCI-E slots and none are PCI compatible?
I've uploaded a diagram of the board(I hope you can see it). Can I ask is the way I've labelled the board correct?

Only PCIe slots there, so you need PCIe
WiFi card. As they are usually PCIe x1 but they also fit in PCIe x16 (long) slots., in case your GPU covers first PCIe slot (that happens often)
There's another option though, a USB connected WiFi dongle.
Where are you located and what is your preferred site for purchase? Personally I prefer buying a board that has WiFi bundled into it for ease of functionality. Perhaps wait a little for other boards to come back in stock...? This pandemic has strained a lot of things, including logistics.

Only the card has to support it.

I'm based in the Republic Of Ireland. Amazon has not specified when the Wifi version will be back in stock. I'm worried if I wait for the WIFI version to come back in that the other components I have chosen will go out of stock(in particular the graphics card that I've chosen).

Yes, you are right, they have more features at least and are easier to upgrade.
Okay sounds good. I was thinking of using the old Wifi card that's on my current motherboard.
It's a "TP-Link 150MBPS Wireless N PCI Adapter". It's almost ten years old.

I assume this will be okay to use on the new X570 motherboard for the time being? In other words, the 10 year old card should be compatible with the new X570 motherboard?

Unfortunately your MB doesn't have a PCI slot, just PCIE (express) so it wouldn't fit.

Okay good to know! I think I'll go with the PCI-E option. I'm sure I can fit one with the graphics card if I choose the bottom-most slot.
I'm just trying to figure out what kind of PCI-E Wifi card I should purchase off of Amazon for the new rig.

I've come across the "TP-Link Archer T4E AC1200" one here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Archer-T4E...keywords=TP-Link+AC1200&qid=1591889026&sr=8-3

It's supposed to be well regarded.

I don't suppose anyone has any suggestions or advice for me regarding what card I should buy? I will probably be doing a lot of gaming online etc...

All I know is that the most current standard is Wifi 6(801.11ax). I know the card that I've linked above is Wifi 5(801.11ac) but I don't even know if these cards would be beneficial for me because I don't have a fancy router or anything. The current card I have in my PC is "802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n" standard and I've been happy with it over the last few years but I've never used it for gaming online etc...
