So I got an Asus TUF gaming Z490-Plus Wi-Fi with 64GB of G Skill Ripjaws V series 3200MHz RAM with an i7-10700.

If I try to turn on XMP on the motherboard, it won't post. It'll try, then after a few times boot in safe mode with XMP off.

I've tried XMP Profile 1 and 2, didn't work. Verified XMP's timing, voltage, and frequency is the same as the advertised RAM speeds.

I've also ran memtest64 and all 4 DIMMs passed after like 16 hours of testing (with XMP off)

This is my first time dealing with XMP. Is this a mobo issue or a RAM issue?

Thanks

CPU/RAM issue probably. 3200Mhz, not huge, but still an overclock, and the 10700, is not an 'overclocking' chip, so whatever the memory controller can handle is going to be it.

64GB is a quite a lot, you may not be able to run 3200Mhz on that much memory. First thing to try would be to increase the DRAM voltage a tiny bit and see if that helps.

If it runs at 2133Mhz, try 2400, then 2666, then 3000Mhz. Look at similar models from G.Skill for the timings to set, that will usually work as any given memory model usually has the same chips in it, just binned to 'guarantee' the advertised speeds.

All else fails, sell that CPU and order a 10700K, more likely to operate higher memory frequencies.

Yeah 64GB is a lot, but it is necessary if I want to keep Chrome open while playing a game.... Frigging Chrome....

But amount of RAM shouldn't affect speed? They're 16GB DIMMs, which is pretty normal. I almost bought 2x32GB DIMMs.

Do you suggest XMP, and then manually change speed to 2400/2666/3000?

It runs at 2133MHz by the way, which is the speed with XMP off.

The non K version of 10700 does XMP just fine as I read. I'm not gonna spend 30% more on a K that gets me only 10% more performance with the 10700's TDP raised to 224W.

XMP is just a settings profile, doesn't mean the CPU can handle it. Be hard pressed to get a non-K CPU to run 4200Mhz memory.

The power to run that memory runs through the CPU memory controller, additional sticks and capacity adds a load. That is why the first thing to try is manually setting the DRAM voltage to something like 1.36 or 1.37 just to see if that will make it stable. Then maybe try looser timings (higher numbers)

Say 16-18-18-38 is what you have in the XMP profile, try, these:
  • 16-19-19-39
  • 16-20-20-38
Or at 2933:

16-16-16-36

Manually tuning may be the only way to get that much memory to work at speed. Just remember Intel doesn't guarantee anything over 2933 with that CPU.

Interesting, I'll try that.

So I found that the computer will boot at every frequency below 3200MHz. Even 3066 will work. However, memtest64 had thousands of errors running on 3066. I will run on 2933 and see what happens, since that's guaranteed by that CPU.

So 2933Mhz passes. At this point I'm going to switch motherboards. I got a few problems with the current MB like speedstep not working, audio static, too few rear USB ports (only 5). and on top of that XMP problems. Gonna try an MSI board and see if things get better.

U guys did a great job of helping. My problem was this board would only boot if I forced it in bios. I had to adjust memory from 2133 to 3200 so it would boot. 10850k must not like slow memory.

Hi

Eximo i got the same problem here.

In my taskmanager is my memory speed 2133MHz. And if i open programs like CPU-Z or Speccy then it showing that my DRAM frequency is runing at 1066 MHz.

XMP is now disabled. And all other settings are also on default.

Need some help ASAP sometimes are my games crashing like forza horizon5 , battlefield.. The heavy games are always crashing.

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 10700F @ 2.90GHz
GPU: MSI RTX 3070
RAM Corsair RGB: 32,0GB type DDR4 Dual
Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (LGA1200)
Storage: 931GB Samsung SSD 980 1TB

Ok i enabled XMP now my speed is now 3600Mhz and my DRAM frequency 1800MHz is this normal?

Well it didn't solved the problem. If i enable XMP no mather what frequency i take above or under the 3000Mhz it crash my game.

I only have it with heavy games like forza horizon and COD vanguard .. The higher my Mhz the faster it crashes. sometimes when it is disabled it also crash what could be the problem here? my temps are all normal.

Its a Corsair RGB Ram 32GB 3600Mhz very good so..

Ok i'll try that memtest later if things are not solved. Cause i dont wanne have hardware destroyed :)

XMP enabled or disabled it crash anyways. enabled = 1-2min disabled= 10-15min crash
