Asus Tusl2- smart failure!

not even sure if its my motherboard, but the problem is this- IBM deskstar 40gig hard drive with an Asus tul2 motherboard, bought two identical harddrives and the same problem with both- "smart failure predicted backup all data and replace harddrive" on boot up can press F1 to skip. Also have problems using fdisk -takes for ever to verfy disk integrity and then just fails. Does anyone have any clues as to what i should, have also tried a samsung hard drive and get the same message on boot but seems to work ok, although the IBM drives wont format properly. please help!!

Turn off SMART and Boot Virus Protection when partitioning/formating/loading your drive!
