The VG248QE is limited to 60 Hz over HDMI.If I am reading your laptops ports correctly you have a hdmi port. You can use the hdmi port but the hdmi cable may or may not be limited to 120hz refresh rate on the monitor which is hdmi 1.4 capable.
Could I use hdmi to displayport or hdmi to dvi? Or a different adapter? The VG248QE is limited to 60 Hz over HDMI.

Did you plug in the USB for power? Did you switch the monitor to the correct input?
Try unplugging the monitor from power for a few seconds. If it doesn't work try disconnecting the adapter and plugging it in again.Yes I used that adapter and plugged the usb into my laptop and the monitor was on displayport and it said no signal.
