ASUS VG248QE connected via DVI cable 1080ti gpu updated to latest driver. tried to find 144hz option in geforce app and through computer settings non had a 144hz option just 60
While I am discussing the VG248QE, let me point out that it is a very bright monitor. Be prepared to turn down the brightness. I use 30 - 40 %. Also I use this ICC color profile.
DVI works but it has to be a dual link cable and a dual link port on the gpu. I've used it with mine just fine. Sounds like one or the other you hare using is single link which will not support 120 or 144Hz.

Everything I read said that it pretty much had to be a Displayport cable. I do know that HDMI doesn't work, because that was the cable I tried first.
Dual link dvi and displayport bot support 144Hz with at monitor. I used mine with the dual.link dvi cable that shipped the monitor for a long time before I switched to using a dp cable.
ok i bought and used the cord i linked. 60 hz 59hz and 50hz are the only options showing up. i was reading another forum and someone said buy this: https://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-007B-DisplayPort-Dual-Link-Adapter/dp/B00856WJH8 something about using an ACTIVE adapter. the one included with the 1080ti only goes up to 60hz. im really confused/lost on the issue. thanks you guys for your help
If you have the 144 HZ setting in the Windows display, it will also show up in the Nvidia Control Panel.
I have it set up using my HDTV as a second monitor, the Asus 144Hz also has to be set up as the primary monitor (or it will also be limited to the HDTV's 60Hz).
