asus vivobook laptop s500ca - numeric 10 keyad turned off

I have tried the fn/num lk and tht doesn't turn on the numeric keypad.
I thought I would have figured it out by now as I had the same issue when somehow the touchpad got turned off. fixed that but have had no success in locating the solution to getting my onkeyboard numeric 10 keypad to work again.

I am not an ASUS expert, but would you provide the model number in case that might help one that is.

What I can say is that on "most" laptops that have have worked with you do not need to hit the fn key with the number lock key, you just hit the number lock key. On some units, like the one I have you hold the fn key down hit the option you want....still fn key down so that it gives you choice to turn that function on or off.

The model info on the tag on the bottom is Asus VivoBook S500CA.

I also want to note that the "home" button is the button that shows "num lk" in small letters. And regardless of whether I use the fn key + num lk/home key, or just press the key, nothing happens. although when I press the fn+ num lk/home key, it does make a sound but keypad doesn't work.

I tried the shift + num lk/home and crtl + num lk/home and fn + num lk/home but no result.

wonder if it is a driver issue. i am trying to attack from that approach.

don't bother with the Asus manual as the updates are from 10/2012 and doesn't have any mention of the number keypad or num lock in in the manua. additionally, l noticed that even when I downloaded the Asus Vivobook S500CA manual, when you actually look at it the model it shows in the title is S400CA.

The solution - to turn on the number/ 10 key pad, PRESS "FN + SHIFT + NUM LK"

Finally found that solution when we ran across vip.asus.forum.com site.

Hi dnvsierravista,

I tried the FN+SHIFT+NUMLK key on ASUS Sonic (S551LB) notebook.. It turned-on the "num-lk" led but the dedicated number pad still does not work.

I called the ASUS support but man they could not solve it and said send it for repair.

Can you suggest why the number / 10 key pad does not work?

Any help is great.

Hey dnvsierravista, I attempted your solution, but I'm still unable to change the function keys. When you said " turn on the number/10 key pad, PRESS 'FN + SHIFT + NUM LK'", are "NUM LK" and "the number/ 10 key pad" different keys?

Hey! I had the same issue. Fn + num lk wouldn't fix mine either. Here's what I had to do to fix:
Go to the control panel
In the search bar on the top right of the control panel window, type "keypad"
The only result that comes up is "Move the pointer with the keypad using mousekeys"
Click on that and then UNCHECK "turn on mouse keys - use the numeric keypad to move the mouse around the screen"
Once that's unselected, your numeric keypad should work! If not, try fn + num lk after unchecking that setting. I hope it works for you like it did me!
