HI all,

I have one main computer with a fixed line conenction to my router and two wirelessly connected. I'm wondering how to setup the FW.

I hope someone can help me as the Asus Manual says NOTHING about the FW on this router. Here are a few questions. thanks in advance:

When configuring the FW i have the choice of "Logged Packets Type". None, dropped, accepted, both. Do I need to do anything here?

For NAT settings I have three ways to go, Port Trigger, Virtual server, Virtual DMZ.

Does anyone know what the difference is between these? If you could give me a suggestion as to which path to take Id really appreciate it and probably have a couple follow up questions.

Thanks

In most cases the firewall is active, if you use dhcp and/or nat if a option.

The rules you are looking at are for special applications to open up ports.

To test got to GRC and scroll down and select "Shields-up", it will test you firewall for open ports.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the FW seems to be working.

I have manually assigned IPs to all computers in the network.

I wanted to get a P2P client (eMule) working and needed to open up ports. in Windows, show all connetions I right clicked the "internet Gateway" icon and went to settings. I then added the needed ports and it worked fine.

Im wondering if this was the way to do it, rather than doing the settings through the router software.
