Hi,

Recently my ASUS X501U laptop became stuck in the blue screen Aptio Bio Utility Setup on startup.

I followed some online instructions from this video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNNn6xAn1RE

And I was finally able to exit it.

Now on startup, it goes to a black screen and the following text:

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Series v2.46 (03/23/12)

PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable.

PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM.

Reboot and select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key.

Can anyone help/advise please?

This was the advice I tried to follow:

1/ Select the Boot menu in the Aptio setup utility, select 'Launch CSM' and change to enable - DONE
2/ Select the Security menu n the Aptio setup utility, select 'secure Boot Control' and change to disable - DONE
3/ Select Save & Exit and press 'yes' - DONE
4/ Hold down the power button until the unit switches power off completely -DONE
5/ Switch back on and continually press the F9 button for about ten seconds; this should now allow the unit to boot up into the Windows Recovery menu - I kept hitting the F9 button and it has taken me into the screen I've described above.

6/ Select 'Advanced Start Up' and wait until the recovery menu appears
7/ Select ' Advanced Options'
8/ Select 'System Restore' and select a date prior to when the problem occured

However mine never went into Stage 6.

Is it for the bin?

I don't know, perhaps that is the blue screen thing I was stuck in previously which you can see in the youtube video above, the Aptio Bios Setup Utility?

Regardless whatever I've done it's now stuck in the black screen I have detailed above.

Could my hard drive be salvaged? I would have some personal docs and photos on there I'd like to try and salvage if possible.

I've tried this but the machine doesn't respond to the F9 pressing and goes into the screen I describe above.

Would my hard drive and the contents on it (pics, word docs etc.) be salvageable?

I didnt see a drive listed in the Bios boot screen.
Is the data recoverable - maybe but it sounds like it might need repiar or professional recovery.

First I would try turning off the laptop, remove power & battery. Remove the hdd, And the reinstall it and see if it was simply a connection problem.

or if you have a harddrive dock or adapter, see if it works in that.
