I got a new microphone today that should have zero background noise, but I plugged it in and it still had the exact same noise my old microphone had. So I tried the mic on a different PC which is just a cheap AMD apu office PC and to my surprise there is zero static.

So far I have tried switching wall outlets and unplugging everything but my monitor, keyboard, mouse and microphone and the same static is there.

Could it be something else or is my motherboard defective?

My old microphone is a low end Sony lavalier one, my new mic is the one on the Beyer MMX 300 headset. The sony mic does have some static on the AMD machine, but the Beyerdynamic one is flawless.

Edit:

Here is audio captured from the mic with the issue, as you can see it makes the mic basically unusable.

Nope, just 2 desktops and a laptop. I am going to swap the PSU with a spare and see if the issue still occurs.

Daaamn worth a try 😉 Keep us updated on if that works! I had a psu that killed audio for me , never had amic problem before 😱

Swapped the EVGA G2 with a Corsair AX, no difference.

Shite. Unless someone more experienced than me comes along, sounds like its your mobo :/ that mobo should have isolated tracks for audio, are any of them damaged? if not it must literally be bad luck :/

No damage to the board, going to swap my 980ti out for another card and if there is no change I'll just begin an RMA.

I also turned off my OC and no difference.

Also i tested while running the Gears of War and Aida 64 CPU benchmark, no difference either when putting heavy load onto the PC.

Damn, the only idea I had left was voltages, did you have a voltage boost on your overclock im guessing? :/ Sounds like an RMA yeh, damnit, thats one hell of a board too Im really surprised :/

Nope. I know the problem. The Beyer MMX 300 headset is not a USB cable, am I correct? And you plugged it into your case not your mobo, am I correct? I've had this problem. Try listening to music a bit. You will hear the familiar static sound. But try pulling both connectors, one at a time up the slighest bit, or pushing it down. Keep moving the connector up by a teeny tiny bit at a time. The reason behind this is because some cases; when you push the pin all the way down, are not aligned correctly with the audio port.

I am using the ports on the motherboard, the exact same issue happens with the ones on the case.

My best guess is the shielding for audio is defective.

Unplugging the headphones and only using the mic still has the high pitch screech too, the screech is identical to the one on my other microphone.

Update: got the board back, its now even more broken and the issue is still there. Literally all they did was change the bios version and box it back up.

Emailed Asus support to hopefully get a new board.

Ffs really? sounds to me like it is a hardware problem. Id get onto them and request a new board, unless someone who has had this issue and knows a better fix comes along :/
