ASUS X99-E WS not detecting m.2 ssd

Hello,
I built a computer with ASUS's X99-E WS board and all seems to be good except for some reason it doesn't detect the M.2 ssd.

I first tried installing the ssd into a different computer to see if it was faulty but it worked perfectly there so I'm guessing it must be something with the board.

After a bit of research I found that there was some bug that had issues with m.2 ssd's but as soon as I saw that I updated the BIOS to the latest revision (and supposedly the problem was patched many revisions ago) but still no cigar.

I have been exploring through the settings on the board to see if there's anything setting wise that would cause this. I couldn't find any other posts with this issue though, so I feel like this must be an issue with my rig in particular.

Any thoughts?

He said it was a samsung eco m.2 ssd hell that board hes got will even support nvme so shouldn't be a problem the 850 eco ain't even nvme I'm thinking his bios is hanging and not showing the drive on boot list needs to pull CMOS battery and clear CMOS newer boards can get finicky like that and hang and won't show drive on boot list with it saying uefi next to the drive for boot selection problly where he's having trouble

Sorry, I got it backwards when I replied last night (in fairness, the thread is 7 months old & the problem was fixed).

The original drive the OP bought (which was the problem) was SATA, with the board only supporting PCIe M.2 drives.
They returned the SATA drive & bought a PCIe based M.2 drive. Problem solved.
