x99 have 4 channels of RAM. If you need maximum speed of RAM read/write- use x99.

On the site where I shop the x99 combo is cheaper than the z170, and if I don't plan to oc which CPU will behave better in tasks like gaming?

If your primary use is gaming I'd personally go for the 6700k.
