Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 + Only left and right sound

Hi I just got this sound card (Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 ) and it's now connected to my fairly old Pioneer Home theater system with an optical / SPDIF cable. However I am only getting the left and right sound. I try to play around with the Xonar DGX Audio Center and all the available audio options in Win7 but no help. My PS3 works fine with this Home theater system though, I am able to get dolby digital and DTS sound.

Anyone has a clue on how to fix this issue? Thanks.

Have you updated the drivers? In the Xonar DG settings make sure the Analog Out is set at 5.1 Speakers, and the Audio Channel should probably be at 8 Channels. With the SPDIF you may need to check the box under SPDIF Out as well.

If you go to Control Panel > Sound, and click on your Speakers and then Configure make sure it is set to 5.1 Surround.

And lastly make sure whatever you are playing through them is meant to be played in 5.1 (i.e., if you are playing a game go into the games audio settings and make sure it is set for a 5.1 surround set up)

If none of those are the problem, I am not sure :\
