Hello there,
I am having trouble with the onboard sound on my Asus Z-87 motherboard. I cannot play any music or sound file without hearing some sort of 8-bit screeching sound or "lagging" in the file. For some reason, games from steam don't run into this issue as often but I cannot listen to an iTunes song without it being interrupted. It is my first home-built computer and I have made sure all of the drivers are installed but for some reason it will not play good quality sound.

I know its not the speakers because they work fine when plugged into my iPhone or mac. Therefore, i'm not sure weather its a Windows issue or Hardware issue.

I am running two bose speakers and a sub woofer into a splitter, which is plugged in to my line out jack. I cannot configure the individual ports in windows for some reason.

ALSO!!! I cannot get the multi-color jacks to work where you DIRECTLY plug in a sub, monitors, etc. They do not register in my OS.

Thanks

Zach

Nothing I can think of - I'd RMA the board. When you get the new board don't use the splitter to start with - follow the debug procedure above and setup on a non-condcutive surface to make sure all is working properly before you place the board in the case.

It is the most recent update available from the ASUS website. It is a fresh install as well. Just put in on last week. It IS system builder software and it IS legal. Not torrented or what have you.

What happens when you use the speakers without the splitter? Does the noise still occur?

If it does, I'd set up the board on a non-conductive surface outside the case and try again. If you have a spare pair of cheap headphones try those as well.

Nothing worked... did all of the things you suggested and still had the issue. Is there anything else I should try or can do?
