Hi everebody,
I am not an expert in computer science, but I have always set up my own workstations, and I have a rather unnatural problem.

Theoretically, Asus validates this compatibility, unfortunately it does not work.

I'm experiencing the same kind of problem with this Asus Z10PE-D16 WS motherboard as in this thread:
https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...th-two-xeon-e5-2680-v4-does-not-boot.2860517/

I work with this installation for 5 years, working with two XEON E5-2640 V3 (8 x 8 GO Ram) / RTX 3060.
I have tried to replace the existing dual xeons with two XEON E5-2680 V4.

After many try, changing bios version (until last one 4101), i can get each xeon working indivudually on CPU 01, but never
get the PC to boot with dual Xeon E5-2680 V4 ...

When powering on with two Xeon E5-2680 V4 processors, the motherboard lights up (all leds are green)
but nothing happens when pressing the start button.

It doesn't boot!! Not a ventilator lights up.

When i go back to dual Xeon E5-2640 V3 all is working again.
I don't know anymore what can i do to find a better solution...

I asked to Asus service, and i'm allready waiting since weeks...

Last question, is it better to work with dual xeon 2640 V3 or with one 2680 V4 ? ... ;)

Thank you in advance to anyone who will take the time to read this post, any help will be welcome,

Nico

You don't need to be in order to have understanding or knowledge of computers. :)

A system/workstation is built using more than just a motherboard, could you include the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

Please include the age of your PSU for said build. You might want to inspect your CPU socket for any bent or broken pins.

I think it couldn't be a bent or broken pins on the socket, because the computer works well with both XEON E2640-V3.
And i have tried each CPU E 2680V4 on the socket CPU1 and it works too!
The problem only appear when i try to work with both XEON E2680V4...

Both XEON E2640-V3 have something like 6 years and are already workable,
and the both XEON E2680-V4 are reconditionned (coming from ebay, and the seller is a good one).

Hope someone will have an idea! i'm just lost and bored on all these unsuccessful tries ;)

I had the same issue on the same board, check the Firmware date, if it is before 2005, the board will not support 2x V4 CPU's. Been through that, and struggled for 2 months trying to make my new E5-2697 V4s to work. Ended up buying E5-2699 V3s.
If you can deliver, the board to Asus and they will upgrade a chip on the board to make it work.
