For a 2017 build, I'd think you would be using Z270.

Asus Z170-K is new and tho it has 75% of users rating it 4 or 5 eggs, those numbers are a bit too low (only 12 user ratings) to be statistically significant.

On the downside:

1. It uses a low budget audio codec (Realtek ALC887) which is two levels below what you'd want for a gaming rig. As is about the only MoBo manufacturer who does this ... competitor boards give you ALC 1150 down to much lower price tiers than this.

2. Not capable of SLI, which is extremely unusual for a board in this price range

3. LAN chip is also substandard for this price range.

Asus Z170 Pro Gaming comes in various flavors so need to be more specific. It has not been that well received...

Asus Z170 Pro Gaming comes in various flavors so need to be more specific. It has not been that well received by board owners, with only 44% of 154 board owners rating it 5 eggs and a rather unacceptably high number 29% giving it just 1 egg. On the plus side:

1. It comes with an Asus variant of ALC 1150.

2. It supports SLI

3. The LAN solution is also better.

At this price, the best board out there is the Gigabyte Gaming 7 (6 time Winner of Newegg’s Customer Choice Award). The board has been consistently selling since it came out well over $200, and at the current price of $159, it's simply a steal ... it's gorgeous too. With 388 board owners reporting, it garnered 55% 5 eggs and reviews are great... more STA, M.2, SATA Express and USB ports than the others as well as higher speed memory support

If it's between the 2, the Z170K isn't worth more than $100-$110. The $165 Pro Gaming meets what I would call "minimum Gaming MoBo requirements" gives you what Gigabyte and MSI give you for $30 - $40 less. And the Gigabyte Gaming 7 is ridiculously priced, $70 below what it was just weeks ago.
