Hey guys I'm building a whole new rig and it's been years since I built a PC. Components are:

Asus Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard
Intel Core i5 6600k CPU
Cooler Master RR-212E-16PK-R1 Hyper 212 Evo CPU fan
MSI GTX 970 GPU
Corsair CMK16GX4M2A2400C14R Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2400Mhz
Corsair CP-9020061-UK Builder Series CXM750W PSU

I have rigged everything up, and the motherboard is lit up indicating that is has power. However nothing happens when I try to power it on. Nothing at all. I even thought it might be a dodgy power switch connecter from the case, so I tried shorting the power switch headers with a paperclip, no luck.

Please help! I've spent all day building this thing and I really need it to work 🙁

Try using one RAM stick at a time. There's a possibly that your RAM may be defective, causing it not to BOOT. I just checked your RAM, and unfortunately your RAM is not on the QVL list. Perhaps try RAM that is on the list? Let us know how this goes.
I am using the display port on the motherboard, I have removed the graphics card for now.
There is a red LED that is constantly on, in the manual it says this is the Standby Power LED, and indicates that the system is "ON, in sleep mode, or in soft-off mode".

They are all lit up (5 LEDs). There's also a pulsing red light along the left hand edge (dimming and brightening slowly - indicates "flowing mode" according the the manual).

Ok after a lot of tinkering I got the thing to boot up - using a different PSU. Slightly irritating considering that I just bought the CXM750W especially for this build. Are faulty PSUs common? I evidently need to return this one. Many thanks for your time!

Chris_b86...... you ever solve your problem? I had this EXACT issue. The "best solution" got me to thinking. Your build was very similar to mine. I unhook ALL perfs and even the fans, and never got a boot. Swapped PSU and mem kit with a working build... no boot. Oddly enough, my issue was the EVO 212. The stand offs dug into the mobo membrane and ran a short on my mem kit. Pulled the cooler and it booted. So, I added some electrical tape under the stand offs and back in business. Hope this comment helped some one out there.
