Look, both are great motherboards and Asus has their better reputation, But..That MSI motherboard is a pretty darn good Z87 Board and to be honest both are great boards but the Asus tops the reliability list. I have another alternative which will temp you, ASRock. ASRock in short are extremely reliable and offer the best performance/value then any other brand. Don't make value put you off quality though, these boards are very high quality and have very good performance. Motherboards don't really help out in gaming and isn't really worth spending big bucks on. I will propose that you get one of ASRock Gaming series motherboards like The Z87 Killer or a more similar price to the ones you listed, the Z87 Professional. I would honestly take the Z87 Professional over the motherboards you listed simply as it is the better motherboard and has lots of features.

Thank you for you insight. I know the motherboards don't play a key aspect in the department of gaming. My main issue is my current processor AMD FX-6350 Vishera. It really isnt bad for a low budget computer (which what mine was), but I want to upgrade and I have the money to upgrade parts. I figured if I spend more money on a few parts, then I can do the same thing in another two months (because nothing is wrong with my current build). I wanted to start with a new processor, which means I need a new motherboard. I just wanted to go ahead and get a nice board that will "upgrade" what I have.
If interested, this is my current build:
Processor: AMD FX-6450 Vishera
GPU: ASUS R7260X (Is next on list for upgrade)
HDD: WD Blue 500GB
RAM:G. SKILLS Ripjaws X series 8GB
MOBO: ASUS M5A97
Tower: Thermaltake Chaser MK-1
PSU: Thermaltake SMART series 750 w
Dual monitor: ASUS VS228H-P (Main), Proview 17'
