Hi Folks!

I purchased a PC a few months ago, I have one GTX 970, 4790k, 16GB RAM, and a Z97-C Mother/Mainboard. Now, I want to upgrade. But ASUS says that I cannot upgrade to SLI with this particularly Mainboard. Well...I was quite sad when I heard that and researched in the Internet.
Some people said, you could do it with special software, others said that you shouldn't even try it!
The MoBo has 1x PCIe 3.0x16 port and 2x or 3x PCIe 2.0 ports, don't know it right now. Should I buy a new MoBo, or can I run a GTX 970 SLI?

P.S. I informed myself about the compatibility of the 970 with PCIe 2.0x16 and found out that it will work, won't it?

Greetings, Ben! :)

What you need for SLI is a motherboard that allows you to run two pcie x16 slot at X8 X8 mode.
The ASUS Z97-C is not SLI compatible. Since you said you researched about the motherboard, you should have known that SLI is not supported on that motherboard.
If you want SLI, get a motherboard that support SLI.

Your motherboard does not support SLI. As Suztera states, SLI requires each PCI-Ex16 slot to run at a minimum x8 through put. The second PCI-Ex16 slot on your motherboard only runs at x4.

A GTX 970 would run in a PCI-E 2.0 slot without issue.
