With the way the economy is going I think we just might see more of this. I hope not. While I do not agree, if it was disgruntled ex-employees, with what they did however if companies do not start treating their employees better this is what can happen in hard times like these. People are losing their jobs due to the economic situation and yet everyday it seems like the big wigs that run these places are still live the life. Even if it may not be true in all cases the perception is there and unfortunatly people are going to act on it. Too bad these people never stopped to think that while they might get back at AT&T and Sprint, instead of targeting just them, there actions targeted hundreds of people who had nothing to do with their current situation. If one one is going to go after a company or whatever try to make sure you specifically target just your objective and leave others out of it. Not that I agree with doing such a thing, it just for those who have that mind set, just cause your ticked do not bring misfortune to those who are not responsable.

haha.. then one day they'll be cutting each other's line... maybe also it their sub contactor who maintain those line... u know.. for more cash... like some people who intendedly spill oil on roads so they can get more people to their workshop...

i was affected by the outage and think that it was not vandals or ex-employees. if i was an ex-employee i would know what cables to cut so that service was not affected but the company needed to dispatch resources to fix the problem. if they knew what they were doing they would know that there would be a chance that one of their friends or loved ones would need to use the phone for an emergency, life or death situation. that is a huge risk to take just because you are pissed off.

this took a lot of organization and skill to execute. i would not be surprised if this was connected to some kind of criminal endeavor.

Huh. I wonder why this is never happened before with electrical lines or copper telephone lines. Oh, wait. They were coursing with deadly, high-voltage electricity. Too bad light being carried through plastic/glass fiber doesn't pose the same potentially lethal risk to everyday vandals.
Then again, I might just be oversimplifying things.

Back on the disgruntled employees thing. Ahh those guys make more then enough money for the next to no work they do. In fact they are all over paid.

You cant just think that because employees are mad that they are justified. Employees are always mad and nothing is ever enough. People grumble and all it takes is 1 or 2 moaners to get everyone all riled up.

The Romans called it the Mob and they knew that if you controlled it you controlled the country. Dont think that you arnt being controlled by having you anger pointed into the direction of "Big Business". You being used like a gun and pointed at a target with the power someone else wants.

But hey if you would rather the Federal Government running communications and if you think they wont abuse the power even more then "Big Business" well....more power to you.

Ah, all this serious speculating !!! Lets just HOPE our boys in blue
are following up on the OBVIOUS, could this have been a test of our
communications systems, and recovery capabilities.

it is because the cable itself is very expensive and especially installation costs. laying deep ocean fiber cables is worse, imagine the difficulty of laying and length of the cables.
regarding copper lines above, there is little damage done if they did those since fiber optic cables are capable unlimited bandwidth causing more trouble.

[citation][nom]falchard[/nom]Sounds wierd. Why power an entire region with only 6 Fiber Optic lines? Aren't these things suppose to be netted to each other incase 1 fails an entire city can communicate with each other?[/citation]
