ATA 100 drives need to run at ATA100 with a motherboard which supports ATA100. Some boards support ATA 100 RAID and this will allow certain RAID configurations. Others would need a RAID controller card installed.

Unless you are considering RAID, just look for a mobo with "ATA 100" or "UDMA100".

I'm sure Crashman would explain this more fully.(He answered a few RAID questions for me)

Not all ATA100 drives require an ATA100 PCI card. ATA100 drives are backward compatible with lower IDE speed standards. If you want the benefit of the ATA100 speed, you'll either have to use a motherboard with built-in ATA100 support or use a PCI ATA100 controller card.
