Athlon XP 2000 Overclock.

hello,
I don't know much about overclocking so I want to ask if I can go higher than this with this CPU. My cpu is Athlon XP 2000+ (stock=1.7GHz), I'm running this CPU @2.2 GHz. By the way I have stock cooler. Nothing else.
idle temperature : 40-42 C
full load : 55 C
 
You got an extra 500 MHz out of it (on stock cooling, no less), I doubt you'll be able to go much higher than that. My XP 2000+ wouldn't overclock to save my life, consider yourself lucky.

If you went with water cooling or another exotic form of heat dissipation, you may be able to get another 100 - 200 MHz, but I wouldn't push it if I were you. Those chips ran hot to begin with, no sense frying it.

Ive got a XP1700 0.13u thurbread rev B and its clocking in at the top end for the XP cores and thats only 2.25GHz so if your getting 2.2GHz your almost at the max for the XP series with out going to extreams,
ive got a very nice Alpha PAL 90 cooling it and im at the limit of the core so heats not an issue with my clock.

I would say that if you cool your chip a little better prob boost the volts a little bit more you will get that extra 50Hz or a bit more from it, the fastest XP ever in this core was the XP3200 and that ran at 2.2GHz so that the fastest AMD could get from the core reliably so you shouldn't expect massive gains from this figure.

If memmory serves me correct ive got the core at 1.65V with a FSB of 333MHz for the sweet spot for my CPU and its been running at this speed and volt for a good few years now, my mobo is a A-Bit NF7 V2 and with this combo and the cpu the multiplier is unlocked and set to 7.

I'd like to do an OC experiment on my Sempron 2200 (stock cooler). What do you reckon the upper limits are?

they are the same core but with less cache than the barton core 256kb instead of 512kb thats it and different core speeds related to the XP rating.
 
Okay, maybe I should clarify - I know about core similarities and cache amounts - what I really want to know is what the OC properties are, such as operating temps, core voltages etc...
 
Athlon XP 2000+ @2.2GHz
My cpu core is Thoroughbred. Default vcore is 1.60v, FSB 133 MHz, Multiplier is 12.5.
I use 1.80v and my FSB is 176Mhz.
I saw max 55C on full load.
 
My cpu is a boxed cpu. I'm using it's stock Cpu fan. and also in my case i have 2 fan for air ventilation. that's all.nothing special.
 
alrite ill try upping the voltage a bit then. ive got an intake and exhaust system fans in my case so that should keep the air coming. motherboard is a MSI kt400 (kt4v). doenst the speed of your memory go up when you bump the FSB up though? my memory is at 200 (400) MHz now but not sure how high it goes before it gets unstable. at 2.5-3-3-6
 
I have the 2400+ tbred - runs stable at 150 fsb x 15multi 2250mhz at 1.70 v core, highest ive tried is 156 which was like 2340 at 1.75 vcore, but i would reset after running 3dmark in a loop a few times. 😛 maybe need to lossen the mem or increase to 1.775.
 
i cant seem to be able to set the options to sync the FSB with the memory. the memory always seems to do FSB+66 -- which at normal speeds is 133 FSB + 66 = 200 MHz memory clock. so when i up the FSB, the memory keeps going up as well, which will make it unstable after it gets past 210 or so.
 
alrite.. well im at 166 FSB and 12.5 multiplier for 2.1 GHz @ 1.625v. memory timings are at 2-3-3-7 at 166 MHz. stable through 3dmark05 so well see how it goes
 
well, i manage to overclock my barton 2600++ to 2300MHz,i up the fsb from 333MHz to 400MHz, add some voltage to AGP, CPU and the chipset. guess wat, i manage to score 7210 CPU score in PCMARK2002, though this benchmark is a bit old, it suits my old CPU as well. newer benchmark like PCMARK 2005 performed badly in old CPU like mine since it didn't have any new extensions like SSE2, and SSE3.
 
sorry for the thread necromancing, but I just joined tonight

I wanted to know how safe it is for me, to see if I can reach 2.2GHz with my 2000+

I currently have:
Abit NF7-S
Athlon XP 2000+ @ 2.1GHz (1.675v, 200 x 10.5)
1gb dual channel ram (one stick is generic Infineon, other is Kingston HyperX)

I can't increase the clock any more, and if I put the multiplier to 11, then it boots into dos then freezes when trying to boot windows

I know that i can't increase clock past 200 because I went 201 and it screwed me over, got lucky and booted into dos back at default.

ALSO: when I bought my 2000+, it wasn't clocked right. at stock speed it was 1250mhz.. that pissed me off, every time i rebooted, the speed would be reset to 1250mhz. Isn't it supposed to be 1.67GHz? anyways, I OC'd from stock to 2.1GHz, and I want to go a little higher, just to piss off my friend who has a 3200+ and a crap mobo, and crap ram, so he can't overclock

When you tried to increase your fsb over 200mhz did you up your chipset voltage? And damn your at 2.1 ghz at 1.675 volts? Im at 2.3 at 1.85 volts. Try upping your cpu voltage to 1.7 or even 1.725 (provided you have a decent cooler) and up your chipset voltage. Take your ram out of dual channel (you will have to move one of the sticks to a different slot) and drop the timings because of the generic ram and up the voltage 1 notch. That should allow you to up your fsb higher than 200. If not use a ram divider. Good luck
 
I have an ASUS AV78X-X Socket A Motherboard with the above mentioned processor, and would like to attempt to overclock it. I am a complete novice at this and don't really know what i am doing. I have had a read through this topic already and attempted a few things but in the end was unsuccesful.

If someone can give me some guidance on what settings to use to achieve the best results i would appreciate it greatly.
