hey guys, i have an ati 4850 and i want to change the thermal paste on it. i took it out then got scared with all those screws and not knowing which one i should unscrew.
could anyone give lead me to a quick tutorial?

First: Find a small box so you can put all those tiny, easily lost, irreplaceable screws into it.

Second: work on the floor, that way a dropped screw can't fall or roll far and preferably work on a white sheet so the little bugg**s have nowhere to hide.

Third: Use a good quality screwdriver that fits well, these screws can be tight and a loose fit or soft screwdriver can damage the screwheads, making their removal difficult or even impossible later.

As a general rule: Take all the screws attached to the 'top' or fan side of the card out and that should release the cover and airflow duct (or shroud). Turn the card over and you'll see 4 screws on an "X" shaped plate, take these out carefully, undo each about a turn , then another until they are all out, this will release the heatsink itself.
The heatsink WILL be hard to remove, so either do this with the card warm (just out of the PC) or warm it up with a hairdryer on high.
The old thermal grease is best removed using a coarse cloth and pure alcohol.
Try to 'sweep' the grease on the GPU chip inwards towards the centre, some of these compounds are electrically conductive so keep it off the PCB.
Putting a dab of compound on the memory chip thermal pads will not hurt.
