I think the Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800GTO 256MB Dual DVI/VIVO PCI-Express which is going for like $250 makes it a very attractive in terms of balance between performance and price. Sure go ahead and spend $400 or more for a video card just to get a few extra FPS. I always buy close to high range as possible without breaking the bank. On average each ATI video cards I've bought have been around $200-$250 after sales/rebates.

My current card is ATI Radeon 9800 128MB DDR Pro AGP which I paid $250 two years ago after rebates.

So now in addition to new video card I have to buy a new motherboard. The Gigabyte board I have isn't cheap. Spent over $200 two years ago.

Upgrades....it never ends!! LOL

Still 10 days later, 7600GT, 7900GT, GTX in stock, the GeForce Go 7900 GTX are even making a splash, and still no damn charts for them.

It's really not ATi bias here, showing off the XT1900XTX, and saying, well its just like looking at a XT, just $50 less.

Also, the XT1900XTX on here for FEAR 16x12 4xAA 8xAF scores differently than on their Review Charts.
50 on First Review (AMD Athlon 64 FX-57)
45 on Interactive (??? unlabeled)

Let's go THG guys. Stop playin with the DELL lappys and crank out the real info.

"Getting like 20% increase in framerates isn't worth it. "

But what about 80%?

I hear the "10-30%" figure tossed around quite a bit for SLI, which is quite inaccurate in most modern SLI-supported games, except at non-gpu limited low res endeavours....

60-80% jump is quite common at 1280x1024 and above....although, yes, there is the odd game here and there where SLI results in no increase.

That's interesting, I haven't seen many games with a jump that drastic so far. Where did you get that information?

I know this might be the wrong place to ask but I'll try

I need Help Deciding Graphic card :?:
One ASUS EN7900GT/2dht/256
OR
Two in SLI ASUS EN 7600 GS-S/HTD/512

Which is better for general use not only games but mostly video editing.

The price of the 2 options is the same.

The mainboard is ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe
There are 2GB of DDR 2 667MHz
The cpu is Intel 930
The Psu is 750 with 2 dedicated power cables for Graphic

As a more or less general rule, you are always better off buying a single top of the lin e card then two lower-end cards in SLI.

You guys would be right if he was comparing one 7900 to two 7900 SLI, but he is talking about stepping back a card, in which case his best bet would be to get the top 7900 series instead.

That is what I think too, the thing that is keeping me from buying is that the 7900 has 256MB in the other end the 7600 have two 512MB for a total of 1024MB doesn’t that count, because the main thing I need it for is video editing not gaming.

I would only get SLI for gaming (and personally, not even then).

Well, I am not sure, but I doubt you will benefit much from SLI in the video editing arena. Also, I think that unless you have an onboard encoader on the card, which I am pretty sure neither of those do, you are still using your CPU and RAM to handle most of the load in video editing.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Hoo no I actually have no idea if 1GB of video ram helps more in video editing, I was just wondering if it did, and I wanted to make sure people understood the differences between the to cards.

SLi does not add memory, they both copy the same information to each 512MB.

So if it's two 256MB cards in SLi it's 256MB of VRAM, if it's two 512MB cards, then 512MB of VRAM.

And no even if it did 1GB won't make much difference for the 2D video editing but you may see it for some serious effect work, but there's still not enough info on it. It may matter somewhat for 3D editing, but it's application depndant too.
