Well there's a few tweaks (I have them already setup so I forget them off hand), I'll find the thread from ElderScrolls.com it like right up front, and post a link here. It'll still crash ever once in a while, but it's much much better than before. But really it plays so much better on Win2K. When I build my new rig I may make a Win2K partition just for Morrowind.

:tongue: @ WS!

I still think it's more of an XP issue than Morrowind, since it works fine in 98 and 2K.

I would, except it's the best game ever made.

Ditto!

Mmmmmm love me that Morrowind!

I have Morrowind, Tribunal, and the Game of the Year 3 pack.

When Elder Scroll 4 comes out (late 2005/early 2006), just like D3 and HL2 it's a guaranteed buy, simply because these guys have delivered in the past and I feel the've earned my business just on previous satisfaction. Heck Morrowind's given me ~500+ hours of enjoyment.

The only thing I hate, is that I owe it all to renting an Xbox for the weekend, and along with Halo I picked Morrowind up as a lark (gotta pick 2 games here). But other than mild M$ involvement, been totally positive experience, and seriously, when people talk about the graphics of FartCry, I look at what they did with Morrowind and PS1.1-1.4, and say, Big F'in Deal! And to me nothing beats the open ended game play, especially with all the fan add-ons out there.

I've said it before I'll say it again. Love this Game! HATE what M$ does to it!

Thanks.

My parents bought me Daggerfall in its day, and I've been hooked ever since.

Hmmm, it's probably the cell buffer, since it always crashes when loading a new one.

Ok here's some quick benchmarks for my setup. The 4.9s installed as any other BETA does withthe typical Windows no certified warning, just continue through no problemo.

Now on to the results...

Ok ran some quick benchies using 'timedemo demo1' while packing (posting second run results [first run were consistently ~2fps lower));

Run at 800x600 Medium, with the Xp2000+ running stock FSB.

Ran both stock and OC'd (500/333) benchmarks (no artifacting).

Catalyst 4.8;

Stock: 32.5fps / 66.1 seconds
Oc'd: 35.3 / 60.8 seconds

Catalyst 4.9 (DoomDrivers);

Stock: 32.5fps / 66.1 seconds
Oc'd: 35.2 / 61.0 seconds

So, surprisingly enough for the R9600Pro there is little/no impact using the DoomDrivers. They must be geared towards other models or maybe AA/AF or something not exploited here.

Of course others' experiences may differ.

No time to run benchmarks with the performance tweaks unfortunately.

I'm not surprised at the results man. Remember, the average X800 should be about 150% the performance of a 9800PRO, and if they're not in DOOM III, then likely those are the only cards really hurt more than the R300s performing similarily to the NV30s where they should (despite Ultra Shadows being there).
So I'm not surprised if only the R420s are going to get the boosts.

I got a slight boost. 2 or 3 FPS in the timedemo, which would equate to 4-6%. Try it on high detail grape and see if the drivers help then.

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too😉

I have a 9800 Pro and the "Doom Drivers" made no difference in performance. The X800s are new architecture, so it's understandable that driver revisions are going to yield a performance difference. For the rest of us ATi users, it doesn't matter that much, and turning off V-Sync has a performance yield that far outweighs the occasional distortion. I think the game runs great considering the fact that they are utilizing all of the available technologies that our cards can render in real-time. It's a spectacular achievement, and it will be the source of many a thread.

I couldn't agree more.

When I play any of the new games at the lowest quality settings, I almost ALWAYS get horrible graphics yet horrible performance. I've complained for years now about the state of graphics programmers being so crappy nowadays because we just don't get games optimized at their best, but now I stand corrected.

I can play at the lowest quality and resolution, yet the graphics are simply mind numbing at such settings and the FPS for a Ti200 is marvelous, simply marvelous. I haven't played a new game with solid smooth frame rates when walking around, this often. Heck, even fighting is most of the time over 30FPS or just feels smooth!

Kudos big time to Carmack. I'm hoping to see this in HL2 as well.
