Ati hdmi audio not plugged in acer

Hello,
Been trying to figure out what happened with my acer laptop.
I have been watching movies on my plasma tv (I've got an HDMI connected to my laptop) for the last 6 months, and this morning, it just stopped working.
I am not a techie person and I've already spent hours trying to figure out what's wrong with the connection, but is unsuccessful.
If someone can please help me out, I would really appreciate it.
P.S. my acer laptop is 3.5 years old and runs on vista.

If a Vista update was applied since it last worked, an installed new driver may be the cause of the issue. Show updates on add/remove programs panel and uninstall, if you see something pertinent.
