The thing I found funny about your desk was the Computer books. Deja-vu. Upgrading and Repairing PCs (got 3 copies of that around the house), Neworking Essentials, the only one missing would be my Java Essentials by QUE.

I suspected you wouldn't need the AGPs, but I'm just developing the habit.

Nice pics BTW. And yeah the computer shouldn't be aproblem but it might give you a nice blue Halo, while you play Halo!

Actually, I have four A+ book, lol. Gee, I don’t know if I need a Jave book. I already have a MCSE and C+ book that I shake my head at, lol.

Yeah, that was my mistake for replying before I seen you were just saying to be updated.

Yap that’s my PC, thanks. At least it’s got three good sides, lol.

Yes edited it. Java, freakin' typing at work kills me. It makes me sound/look like an ESL student!

It's actually a Java, HTML and XML technical reference manual (quite handy for researching terms); oh well typo! 😱

Yeah it kills me, because there are about 3 different virus and port scans running simultaneously and there is even this annoying NTFSDfrg going on all the time. None of which I can disable (although I am able to disable the Internet policy monitor [the one that checks that we don't surf where we're not supposed to]).

With it doing all that it sometimes doesn't record my key-strokes so wrds gt fckd up! In this case it was just a typing error, but likely brought on by somthing distracting. Still gotta do SOME work to get payed!

SUX typing these at work, 'cause I have to go into windows to do it which promts all the security and my pIII 900 becomes a 486DX4/100 (Heck I can't open Word and IE at the same time, it crashes!). 😡

All cards will have some issues and all venors of "like" cards will, too.

I purchased a PowerColor ATI9800np 128 meg and it would lock-up every five to ten minutes of play. I traced part of its problem to a 128meg BIOS AGP aperture setting. The card would not run if it was set over 64meg. But, you should set this to one-half your system memory. My Ti4200ultra was fine at 128 (I have 512 system RAM). A "bad" card? Not sure.

Then the card will crash on a continuous 3D mark2001SE test loop anyway. ALL my other video cards from TNT's on up (TNT, TNT2 ultra, Gforce2pro,Ti4200ultra) pass this four hour burn in test but not the ATI PowerColor. The Ti4200 and ATI are on the EXACT same system. I am exchanging the card for a Sapphire 9800pro (no non-pro is available) to see if it is a design unique to PowerColor which has typically fine cards.

These new cards may all be too tweaked for their own good IMHO. The heat pouring off of even an ATI card is astounding. Power supply sensitivity (I have an Enermax 430 watt) surpassed even AMD's . The drivers can be fixed and stabilized, but not the rediculous level of hardware design.

Not really, typically they have a reputation for poor quality memory, and fudging their clock speeds. And don't forget Pro -> GOLD = ATI non-pro.
The only mfr worse than PC IMO is Gigacube.

Dells are great machine for the computer-challenged that dont know jack about them. Of cource us computer smart-asses are going to think they suck since the OS is OEM specicifc to that machine, BIOS is locked out, and not very upgradable to name a few.

F-DISK-Format-Reinstal DO DA!! DO DA!!

Sure, Dells work for the computer challenged. But you can spend 1/3 of the price and buy an ibuypower computer that will not only outperform it, it will be made of non proprietary parts that can be upgraded (providing that you learn a thing or two about computers along the way.).

These days, no matter what company you like, be it <b>nVidia, ATi, or whatever,</b> no matter how logical your reasons, you're labeled an <b>idiot</b> or a <b>fanboy</b>, or <b>both.</b>

ATI has been around for a long time, bottom line they do something right some of the time and have money and experience and connections to live on through hard times...
I think alot of people are still down on ATI and might always be as they've had poor driver support in the past.

Thats just the way it is in any market, people remember bad support, some forget soon and some it doesnt bother.. but your going to have some who are very cautious for a long time.
Companies such as ATI or nvidia put themselves up against the ropes, ATI is fighting a legacy of not supporting their products well enough to fit many consumers (enthusiasts) needs.

I for one feel they had many problems when they were first trying hard to go head to head with the likes of nvidia and maybe struggling, cutting corners, maybe they didnt have the team to handle the pressure who knows.

They seem to do alright now (but havent been to rage3d lately...), the bad public opinion is just the way it is when you dig your own hole.

Athlon 1700+, Epox 8RDA (NForce2), Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 80GB 8MB cache, 2x256mb Crucial PC2100 in Dual DDR, Geforce 3, Audigy, Z560s, MX500

Took a two second stroll to my old camping grounds at rage3d and found this list

All I could do when I read this page was LOL
Seems so silly the guy has the dawn demo girl on his sig and this enormous list of problems with ATI drivers.

Imagine if they got around all these. Would be an interesting driver release wouldn't ya say?

Dude, what the heck are you trying to say?

This is an old thread, you dug it up. It's your responsibility now to remind us by quoting, what you wanted to reply to. I totally cannot remember what are you refering to.

Lets see, we have orange and yellow envelops to mark the thread for you. I guess you have a different sense of time and I must have a limber right hand as I don't seem to find it no too difficult to scroll down to the associated thread. I won't spoon feed you. This isn't an unassociated Email. The thread still exists and is marked for your convenience. As you said, it is our responsibility to learn how to post to an Email verses thread verses newsgroup. I won't replicate a thread that already is marked.

Now, I was refering to the fact that most ATI problems are 12-volt rail power supply related. Same with Nvidia. Problem is, too many people love to expound a few "thoughts" with virtually no facts to back it up.

Study up on power supplies and ye shall see the benefits of nature's ways.

man are u like some power supply guru?? LOL (u got competition crashman)

Proud Owner the Block Heater
120% nVidia Fanboy
PROUD OWNER OF THE GEFORCE FX 5900ULTRA <-- I wish this was me
I'd get a nVidia GeForce FX 5900Ultra... if THEY WOULD CHANGE THAT #()#@ HSF

If they fixed all those problems it would be a great day.
I found it funny on two of ATIs investigations into specific problems they say on one "reproduces on a GF3" and the other "happens on NV also", its not good when your saying the problem also exists on the competition as if they are the gold standard (Carmacks comments on Nvidias drivers).
Now if they fixed those issues also I'd REALLY be impressed, it would tell NV they are really ready to lead, whether they are game specific problems or drivers.

I am a fan of the 9800 nonpro card, at $240 its pretty tough to beat price/performance. But reviewing all those problems makes the extra $100 for a 5900nonpro something to consider.

A few of those issues were fixed with 3.6 (CS, and alot of the NeverWNights,GTA3 heli, Some Morrowind issues [didn't notice them myself, haven't had problems and didn't use the truform patch], and that's the ones I remember); yet alot remain, but the same can be said for NV, depending on your def. of an 'issue'. Still the BF1942 issue. And I have to say there are also a lot of issue with Matrox drivers too. :frown:

Anywho the guy who posted the list is the major MOD of the forum and usually hosts the CAT release threads with Catalyst maker. His Avitar has to do with the Wrapper for Dawn to make it run on the ATI cards (that's why she has the ATI tatoo, and I beleive that one is her twin 'dusk' [I'm serious that's the name!]).

Anywhoo, just an FYI for all.

5900 non-PRO, what world do you live in! 😱

Dunno dude, mainly, when you build a fresh new system, you are almost guaranteed full ATi stability. You can take your risks though, it's only open-mindedness. If it doesn't work right, refund, and get the 5900. I suggest you try a new route, but just be open to the fact you MAY run into install probs, and MAY need to modify the system's state (format, reinstall, whatever). But if it works right, be happy. At least the ATis RUN DX9 like it should! Freakin' 5600 runs at 1/7th of the 9600PRO in some shaders!

Actually I saw the thread, however I thought you meant something you said in this thread, and I kinda got angry since lately I've had enough with people digging old thread posts with no quoting... (Svol anyone?)

It's just, I don't recall what I said here to warrant you telling me about PSU issues. Can you find what I said?

Nonpro 5900, wow now i thru what little credibility I did have down the drain!

For all the FX benefits, I'd have to agree on the shader issue, they will probably never allow the FX series to surpass the radeons
