I noticed that, too, when I began using ATMA. I think the author intended
to make the option available but never did for whatever reason.

NOt sure if its still out there, but I found Hero Editor (ZonFire99
Edition) to be much better that ATMA, for SP.
Too bad Shadowmaster never made one for 1.10

To print it out so you can understand too
On your cube in ATMA you have an enabled menu option called transmute.
Transmute includes cubing 3 runes to a higher rune, 3 chipped gems to a
flawed gem, 1 unique item + 1 pgem + 2 runes to upgrade to a higher base
item.
That what cubing runes have to do with ATMA.
But is it only me that didn't know how to use it, was the question.
And i can read in an other reply that they forgot to program the function.
Hope this makes it all clear to you.

Quite frankly, I found the instructions to the ATMA program to be quite
lacking. I've downloaded it, but I'm having a lot of problems using it.
It would be nice to have a clear, concise set of instructions
including all functions with the program for the benefit of those of us
who are not as "geeky" as some others.

Anything specific you need, or general all-around help?
(I'd offer general advice to start, but I tend to go *too* simple and
come across as patronizing.)

Not at all patronizing. Too simple sounds good. My greatest problem is
that I have all these things from version 1.09 and they're already in
ATMA. I didn't think to run any of the characters through version 1.10
b/c, at the time, I didn't even realize that there had been an upgrade.
So, I'm really looking for a way to upgrade all those items I have in
version 1.09. How do you create a character in ATMA, dress him and
accessorize him, and bring him into the game? I'm totally clueless.

ATMA is not a character editor or item creation tool. It's simply a
muling program. Different animals, really.

Ah, so if I can find Hero Editor, would that allow me to create a
character and dress him and accessorize him with my version 1.09 items
and then carry him into the game for an upgrade?

Morning, Diane -- I've never used Hero Editor, only read about it. The
way I understand it works is that you can basically customize your
character, add skill points and stat points to a "blank" character, and
even newly create, import, and possibly even create custom-designed
items. The downside here is that this kind of thing has a high
probability to kill the replayability of the game.

ATMA on the other hand is a tool for players who play SP in the
generally accepted legit fashion, as it allows the storage and
"shuffling around" of items that your characters have actually found.
Simply put, it's like a huge stash with numerous sub-categories. You can
drag items from your character into the stash, and vice versa. It does
have some additional features, but it doesn't allow you to do something
that you couldn't also do if you played online. The original idea was to
write a software that lets SP players "mule" (store) items easily
without having to run multiple versions of the game, fiddle with DLLs or
do other obscure stuff. On the closed realms, self-muling is possible
(though not without risk), but before ATMA there was no such way for
single mode players.

Word of warning: Do not open the character files of characters that are
currently in a game. This can corrupt them and/or cause all kind of
malfunctions.

There is no need to upgrade them. If they are in the item storage, you
can simply open a character (the character file) and move items from the
"stash" onto the paperdoll of your character. You can equip a 1.10
character with 1.09 items, just like it worked on the realm. If a
particular unique item's properties changed between 1.09 and 1.10, the
already dropped (and stored) items will keep their old properties. ATMA
shows you in which version an item was dropped. I believe it supports
1.07 through 1.10 items.

If you want to upgrade *characters* from 1.09 to 1.10, you only need to
run the patch file, log a character into a game, and leave the game.
Conversion happens automatically.

> How do you create a character in ATMA, dress him and

You can create the character in the game, and then just open it with
File -> "Load .d2s file", but if you want to make a completely new
character in ATMA, you can also click on the white paper sheet item (far
left) in the toolbar. You can choose the D2 version you want the
character to be compatible with. Make sure you adjust the path of your
save folder if it's not the default, so that the new character is saved
in the right place. Best do this without D2 running.

This opens the paperdoll and inventory of the new character (likewise if
you open an existing one, as explained above). Now you click on the D2X
tab, and open the stash you previously created (if you did). Drag and
drop items from the stash onto the paperdoll/inventory. You can also
open multiple characters and move items directly between them, using the
same drag & drop method.

OK. I cannot drag items from 1.09 to my 1.10 character, so I created a
1.09 character. Then you say, "If you want to upgrade *characters* from
1.09 to 1.10, you only need to run the patch file, log a character into
a game, and leave the game." This, apparently, is where I get lost.
When I go to "File > Load .d2s file" I get a small window to OPEN FILE.
Then all it does is open my new character in ATMA without all the
items I set him up with for the upgrade. I created the character in the
game. Is this the problem? After I created him, I closed the game. Is
it b/c I had the same character created in the game AND ATMA at the same
time?

I'm gonna get this if it kills me!!!!

OH, this last paragraph. I'm understanding this to mean that if the
game is currently on, that you shouldn't open char files of the same guy
in ATMA, right? I'm determined to use ATMA. I'm figuring that I'm
having a hard enough time understanding how to use it, the last thing I
need is something else that can potentially get me into more trouble.

May I take a stab at your questions? :)
That's right, don't edit a character while it's in a game or the editing changes will be lost when
you exit the game.

From the other posts in the thread that I've read so far, I *think* I know where you're having
trouble (If I didn't misunderstand you, always a possibility with me,hehe) .... ATMA will not load an
item saved off of a 1.09 or earlier character onto a 1.10 character. If you try to even view such an
item in the "open" box while you have a 1.10 character open,it'll say that it's corrupted and if you
proceed to place it on your 1.10 character, the game will no longer be able to read the character and
will say something like "bad dead bodies" or something like that.

Items saved from 1.09 are saved in different file formats from the 1.10 ones so that even though
1.09 items will work on a 1.10 character, they must be converted to the 1.10 file format first.

Here's what I do...

1. I create a character in 1.09 format and name it "Converter".

2. Right-click on its stash and import all of the 1.09 format items I can into the stash or on the
character itself, stuffing as much in as will fit.

3. Save the character and exit ATMA.

4. Open Diablo2 and then select the new character and then go into the game. Then exit Diablo2.

5. Re-open ATMA and the character just created,it will now be in the proper 1.10 format as will any
items on her/him.

6. Right-click on the items and choose "Export" and save each one to disk, allowing it to overwrite
the old copies of the item. Once I've exported all of the items I delete the converter character and
remake it if needed to do more 1.09 items.

7. Then open my favorite 1.10 playing characters in ATMA and import the new copies of the items just
exported from the converter character and then save the character with the new items and then go
play the game.

I'm not very good at using ATMA myself (or typing out instructions, sorry!), I don't understand the
buffer window thingy or making a stash thing-a-ma-jig to hold items or any of the other
nifty-but-techy features,I just export and save them to disk,etc... I can do what I need to do at
least. Hope this helps.:)

ATMA = A Tenshi Muling Application, it is for single player muling (Diablo
2, and LOD), it is a seperate program that gives you an unlimited stash to
store stuff in.
WoW = World of Warcraft, Blizzards new online only, pay per month, role

What you say is correct, however this IS still an NG for Diablo...I am
sure that WOW has an NG somewhere. I, for one, have grown tired of all

There is alt.games.warcraft, but analogue to the people who wanted a
new group when D2 came out there might be people who think it doesn't
suit for WoW.

Wouldn't it be simple to conclude that alt.games.warcraft is a closer
(therefore more appropriate) place to post WoW traffic than
alt.games.diablo(2)?
